“Peking Duck and Porky Soup Dumplings, dim sum menu all day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2011

Went pre-theater on Saturday night. The food and service as well as presentation was all very good. Prices reasonable and lots of choices, from $3 dim sum selections to $40 whole Peking Duck served in two courses that will serve 2-4. They have plenty of servers and a large open kitchen, they just need more customers to create a buzz.

“Authentic Chinese Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2011

We sat at the bar, you get personalized attention and commentary on the go as the dishes arrive. Had an exquisite delicacy: Tempura style seaweed. This was quite a treat, unique texture and flavor, apparently it is not on the menu. The shrimp on tofu was also superp. Imagine shrimp wonton filling without the pasta wrap, on top of freshly made uber delicate tofu... fantastic. The beef came in a little pot on a candle warmer. Very tender and tasty, nothing like "amero-chinese" beef dishes you get elsewhere. And finally, the rice! This was the best [white] rice anywhere. You cannot hide or camouflage badly cooked or poorly chosen white rice. It has to stand on it own, with you supporting cast.... I could just eat this rice sans rien all day long.
Ah, here is a bit of culture. The guy behind de bar is a spaniard and a painter to boot. His art hangs on the walls. I am no art critic, but his stuff is really really good too.

“Don't go early”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2011

Although everything from the answering machine, to the website to the front door state an 11 AM opening, we could not get in until closer to noon after two tries. The outside is very unattractive with dead plants in planters filled with cigarette butts. Once inside we were pleasantly greeted and seated and attended to efficiently. We tried a number of items on the dim sum menu and were disappointed in the quality of most of what we ordered. The pork soup dumplings were the one delicious stand out. Things were just good enough, we'll give it another try.

“Excellent Food at Reasonable Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2010

This restaurant is very new in Coral Gables. They offer some unique Chinese food not easily found in Miami. The location is not very good; it's hiding around the corner of Ponce De Leon and a side street, plus there's another Chinese restaurant located 2 blocks before it. However, the food was excellent. We had shrimp dumplings, stuffed egg plant with shrimp and steamed beef tripe as appetizers. These were offered as dim sums. We also ordered a seafood soup. For entrees, we had steamed whole snapper with ginger and scallions and stir-fried Chinese vegetables. They were all excellent especially the fish; it was cooked to perfection and the server removed all the bones. I highly recommend it if you want to try some different Chinese food.

“Under New management, Chu's in the Gables is a Hit!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2010

Chu's has recently changed their management and with that, everything has been upgraded. I have seen at least 20 new dishes on the menu and dim sum is now being offered! They also have lunch hours now. On Monday nights they have a Karaoke event where ladies get 2 for 1 drinks from 10pm to closing. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. The new staff there are so friendly and welcoming. Chu is now the head chef at the restaurant so all his famous creations such as the Peking Duck are still there!
