“great hotel, paltry restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

if u need excellent advice about what to do or see in the area, talk to frank, the concierge. was very impressed with the hotel, but don't believe i should be told how much to tip, which is included with every service at a whopping 18%. Also, avoid the twice cooked beef on the Miami spice menu. truly substandard. and don't come hungry. we had to order the cheese course to be satisfied.

We welcome constructive feedback from all of our guests as an integral part of monitoring services and product throughout the resort. It’s our desire to ensure every guest experience is both exceptional and memorable. Regarding the comment on tipping: The 18% gratuity is added on the check for the guest’s convenience and it is entirely at the guest’s discretion to either, increase, reduce or completely eliminate the amount of gratuity, depending on the perceived level of service received. This option is clearly stated on the guest’s check and has been received most positively by Biltmore patrons. Also, we were surprised to see the comments regarding cuisine quality, as our restaurants, both Palme d'Or and Fontana, have received top Zagat ratings in South Florida for four years running. If there is any other aspect of the hotel that you would like to discuss, please contact us directly so that we may address with you more thoroughly.

My family and I spent a week here and had a lovely time. The room was clean, pretty, and comfortable. The staff was gracious and the maids did a good job cleaning the rooms. We ate at all of the hotel restaurants, and were relatively satisfied with them all. The pool was nice, although there weren't enough lounge chairs.

However, there were a couple of things to keep me from giving this hotel a "5" rating. The rooms have no coffee makers. You can request one, but then you have to request fresh cups from room service each day--the maid service doesn't take them away or replace them. The furniture was starting to look pretty worn, and they ran out of towels at the pool one day. The sound on our television was abysmal--the speakers were inside of a cabinet. There was extensive construction throughout our stay, making several areas of the hotel off-limits while tiling and repainting and other work was going on. One night there was a wedding or some other event, and the music was very loud. Also, the location is not optimal--it's at least a 25 minute drive to Miami Beach or to any other beaches.

Stayed here in June as part of an educational trip for two nights. As you drive up to the hotel you are greeted by grand architecture and a building that can only be described as a Fairytale Castle. Upon arriving we were greeted by bellboys who were excellent on taking our luggage out of our vehicles. As we enter we are greeted by concierge staff who offer us Fruit Nectar and Sparkling Water. The hotel is spotless and excellently maintained, the rooms are an excellent size and contain two televisions and the world's most amazing bed. The bars in the hotel are excellent and staff are constantly interested in you and nothing is a hassle. The breakfast was out of this world, every kind of food you could think of from freshly cooked omelettes, pastries, fresh fruit you name it they have it. The grounds are glorious and an excellent walk round. Great for golfers as the golf course is amazing. The spa is excellent too and even have packages for little girls. No wonder this hotel is Part of the Leading Hotels of the World Group. Highly Recommended.

This is stunning hotel with amazing grounds. Everything was top end including the service. Plenty of comfort. The fitness center is reason enough to go there, as is the golf course, tennis courts, pool, and resturants. Hard to top this.

This is by far the best Hotel we have ever stayed in! We were there back in 2002 and I have yet to find a hotel that compares to this place. The beds were comfy, the entire place was very clean, the pool was great! They had birds in the lobby in a huge cage while we were there, I wonder if those birds are still there?

The Miami Biltmore is undeniably one of the most amazing hotel we have ever stayed at. In fact, we loved it so much we got married here. Apart from the gorgeous aesthetic, the service is simply unrivaled. They really have thought of every aspect of your stay and don't disappoint. The rooms are beautiful and clean. The pool is amazing. Just a wonderful experience overall.

It was an off the cuff weekend break - booked by internet - picked up the Merc 4x4 at MIA and in 10 minutes was checking in at the Biltmore which was an experience in itself - car valet - and straight to a very old style reception desk where we were treated like VIPs even though we were staying at a low-end room. For those that hanker for modern minimalism this Hotel is not for you, this Hotel is a Grand Hotel, with everything you would expect from it (and totally lacking in American tack) - two aspects immediately grab your attention : the style and ambiance of the buildings and the facilities - all of it, typical of those grand times : the staff at all levels whose whole substance appears to exude style, patience and utter willingness to help you in every way to make your stay in the Hotel a truly unforgettable moment in your life. This is not your US have a good day hotel - this is something so special, so endearing, you feel you want to stay indefinitely - its like a movie set somewhere back in the "old money" times.
Anyway to detail:-
I personally don't do daily breakfast but in a place like this I did - the breakfasts are served in warm yellow sunlight around/in the central courtyard with its huge fountain and arched facades, freshly squeezed oranges with champagne, Earl Grey Tea in a silk pouch, eggs Benedict with shaved truffles and superb croissants, an unparalleled mouthful of paradise - all at prices you can afford!

The pool is huge with many interesting stories from the thirties where people played water polo - real polo on horses in the pool - for the concerned, the pool has since been cleaned.

The Hotel has two beautiful traditional bars with snacks, wine-by-the-glass list and cocktails that demand your return, again and again.

The French restaurant was simply great, innovative in presentation but still retains the classical elements of fine ingredients only found in French cuisine, the have a lady sommelier who knows her craft and a wine list to match whatever dish you select and more, by the glass Sauterne with my fois gras, again the service is impeccable and whatever you wish, US chatty or quiet discrete. It is very traditional with a strict maitre'D and you are expected to make some effort to dress for dinner which my wife loves being an avid clothes shopper, it just adds to the whole occasion, the clientele preening and showing themselves in their finery, all high heels no sign of a flipflop - very European!

The Italian restaurant was good but the menu needs a good work-over - having lived in Rome for a few years with many vacations to the culinary areas since then, I seek Italian food like an addict wherever I go. Whilst French cuisine is like an artform, Italian cuisine is an essential way of life - unfortunately many Italian restaurants outside of Italy take this to mean mediocre culinary skills with almost similar ingredients i.e. your very average high street Italiano Ristorante.
Whilst we were there we gate-crashed a wedding party which was in the grand ballroom - constructed like a baronial hall it is incredibly impressive in scale and style and must be THE place to tie the proverbial knot in Miami.

So in conclusion if you want to have weekend away that you will never forget, the Biltmore is that place - so for me it would earned the name The Biltmore Grand - for those of you that need a comparable as a reference - The Breakers.

A world traveler.

Room Tip: As it was a long week end break for us away from Panama, we just chose whatever room was available...
