Owner description: At more than 85,000 acres, Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is Florida's largest state park. More native orchid species, including the rare Ghost Orchid, grow in this wilderness than anywhere else in the United States. The park's wildlife is as diverse as its flora. Rare species such as the American crocodile and West Indian manatee live in the waterways to the south, while Florida black bears, Everglades mink and endangered Florida panthers inhabit orther regions of the park. For many, the most memorable introduction to this wilderness is a swamp walk. strolling through the slow moving slough waters with a Friends of Fakahatchee naturalist.

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013

I went on vacation intending to spend time in the Everglades, but ended up spending most of my time in the Strand. It is SO beautiful and peaceful. The boardwalk is a great way to get an introduction to this beautiful place and easy for anyone to navigate. Also, look up Jane's Scenic Drive on a map and GO! It's off route 29. It's a little bit of an adventure and takes you deep back into the preserve. The road is not paved and there are a lot of potholes in some sections, but I was in a Volkwagen Jetta and managed it fine.

“Take a walk on the Boardwalk”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013 via mobile

Nice little area where we walked the boardwalk and got to see a few is the wildlife. If you want something to do that doesn't cost a lot check it out. The gift shop was cute too just make sure you have cash.

“Beautiful Easy Walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

No matter how many times we've done this walk we manage to see something different. Alligators, snakes, deer, and many species of birds. There is usually an alligator at the end of the swamp, but this time we saw one right below where we were walking on the boardwalk. It never moved, even as we got closer, and stood right above it. (see pic) Watch for spider webs as they like to span the trees just above one's head, and they are huge! There were 2 places this time where we heard bees swarming just beside the boardwalk, but we managed to go by without any problems. We often see snakes sunning themselves by the edge of the water just before the boardwalk, Mosquito repellent here is a must!

“We survived!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

Made it today thru Janes Memorial Scenic Drive. Great Animal-Sights, but Water in Potholes was over 1ft deep. At Entrance to Pecayune we had to cross a River. Had a Jeep 4x4, with normal Car - No chance!

“Nice interesting walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

We stopped at the boardwalk and enjoyed a nice walk and read the many interesting signs. Saw a lot of different birds but no gators. It was a nice stop and yes they have facilities.
