Our family spent a week on South Cocoa Beach in early July. The beach was clean, uncrowded and very nice.
We spent one day up by the pier where there was a lot more action, but we enjoyed what we called our "private beach" instead. There where two small parks nearby with parking and restroom facilities that we used and felt like it was there just for us.
The ocean was rough here. Not for small kids except for very near to land, but it made for lots of fun for us, and great boogey-boarding. VERY hot sand here. Not like gulf beaches, but worth the difference due to the privacy this area provides. Loved it!

Clean beach with great seats for any kind of rocket launches from cape canaveral. Wonderful visit with the kids they will meet new friends and the waves are incredible for the east coast. The tide is amazing to watch. Free parking at RonJon and great shopping.

This town has a special place for me - I was living in Orlando in the military for years and visited Cocoa Beach a few times. It wasn't until I left and came back to the area (lived in Orlando again for about 10 years) that I found the true gem of Florida. During the off-season, it's just a sleepy little beach town (with an amazing climate!). During the tourist (read: peak) season, it's still not bad. Even when the ships are in, the town is still relatively quiet and still one of the best places I've lived. If you are looking for more seclusion, etc, go a little further south down Cocoa Beach (before Patrick AFB).

I went to a smaller section on the southern end, near Minutemen Causeway. It's a smaller, quaint section of beach that still has good food nearby, and isn't near the main drag. Very clean beach and water too. Worth a visit!!
