“great fun! great food! great staff!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Four of us from West Coast came over to take the Sunday brunch cruise. On my bicket list is to see more of Florida and we did just that. Really top notch staff, taking care of us. Band was great too. Hard to hear instructions in Dining area, esp for my 3 90yo's! But since the Captain is so skilled, we didn't need to memorize the safety features...but be sure to pay attn to them when you go!!

“Luncheon cruise”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

We went on the Sunday afternoon lunch cruise. The instructions said that they would begin boarding at 2:00 P.M. for departure promptly at 2:30. We arrived at 2:05 and got into line to board. As you board they take your photo and give it to you at the end of the cruise (already included in the price)
When we got on board there were no seats left on the second/shaded deck and there were a lot of people that arrived after we did. The first/lowest deck is for dining so no entry there for seating until called. The upper deck has three tables with 4 chairs each and the rest of the room is for folks walking about the boat. This would be a great advantage for a night cruise, but when the sun is out and its 90 degrees on a Sunday afternoon, one prefers to stand in the shade below on the lower deck than to sit in the sun on the top deck for long.
There is a jazz band of older gentlemen that plays old time New Orleans style music and they do a pretty good job- especially considering the acoustics on a paddleboat.
The lunch consisted of lettuce with choice of two dressings, watermelon, pineapple, grapes, baked beans, sliced pork slider size sandwiches, and minature cupcakes. Drinks were tea or coffee only unless you paid bar prices for any other drink. Given the heat in Florida I was a bit surprised they didn't offer bottled water to guests.
The afternoon cruise tends to cater to the mid 60+ crowd. There were a few younger people on board and a few grandkids, but overall, its a quiet afternoon on the river.
The staff were incredibly hardworking and very nice. The Captain personally greeted folks coming and leaving, and everyone did their best to make it a nice experience for all.
The intercoastal is broad in this area so scenery is limited to distant views. We did see a few dolphins which was a nice treat.
This is an older paddle boat and the furnishings are quite dated. There is inadequate seating and without any coupon this is $39.00 pp. There are some discounts out there - I got mine from Travelzoo but still it was $30.00 per person. Although not well posted, the gratuity for the waitstaff is not included in the price of admission. Parking is free and no one seemed to have any problems finding a space.
In sum, you are paying for a nice boat ride with a heavy snack. My tip to you is to arrive super early to be able to obtain a table with chairs on the shaded deck.

“Indian River Queen - Spectacular River Lagoon Views and Southern Hospitality at its Best”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

Our women’s club recently booked a Sunday afternoon cruise on the Indian River Queen Paddleboat for 30-40 members and guests. I have been on the paddleboat several times previously so I knew we would all have a great time. Unfortunately, the weather that day did not cooperate. High winds and heavy rains were in the forecast so Captain James decided that it was not safe to take the boat out on the river. We stayed dockside the entire time. While we were all disappointed, we still had a great time. Most of our group gathered on Deck 2 to enjoy the music of the Dixieland Jazz Band that played all afternoon. We sat at round tables for four and ordered drinks - wine, beer or cocktails from the cash bar. Some of us got up to dance. The music was great. Soon platters of chips, salsa, and fresh fruit appeared and we all helped ourselves to the food.

When the winds began to pick up and the rains came we were pretty well protected by the clear plastic coverings over the openings on the ship. Before long it was time to go down to the elegant air conditioned Queens Room on the Main Deck for our catered meal. The highly acclaimed Black Tulip Restaurant in Cocoa Village now exclusively provides the food served onboard. We sat at long tables covered with white linen cloths and napkins. Each table was adorned with fresh flowers in vases. There are some smaller tables, also. We dined on a buffet of garden salad with three varieties of dressings, corn medley, baked BBQ beans and pork sliders. Everything tasted great and I finished everything on my plate. The assortment of desserts was very tempting so I sampled a little bit of everything - miniature éclairs, red velvet cupcakes, iced cake squares, chocolate covered cookies, etc. There was also hot tea and coffee. We were all full by the end of the meal. As I went back for seconds, I noticed that there was still plenty of food left on the buffet. As we watched from the large picture windows, we saw dolphins swimming not far from the ship. We had a great views of the Herbert Humphrey Bridge. All too soon it was time to depart the ship. Luckily a break in the weather occurred so we didn’t get drenched as we walked down the long dock to our cars. Parking is somewhat limited at the marina so arrive early for your cruise.

The triple deck ninety one foot long paddleboat was built in 1984. We did not go up to the top deck because of the inclement weather. There is plenty of seating there on nice days, though. The top deck is a wonderful place to view the spectacular scenery on your cruise The two full service cash bars on Decks 1 and 2 serve a wide variety of drinks. In case you are wondering, there are restroom facilities onboard. I strongly suggest that you make reservations for the Special Date Night Sunset Cruises for 50 couples only on select dates, $250 per couple, Friday Night Dinner Public Cruise, $49 pp and the Scenic Sunday Afternoon Public Cruises, $39 pp. I highly recommend their popular 3-hour Mother’s Day Brunch Cruise, $65pp. You received a Welcome Aboard Family photo, dine on an lovely buffet meal while enjoying two hours cruising the Indian River listening to a live music - no work for mom whatsoever. The boat is available for private and corporate charters - meetings, business lunches, charity benefits, weddings, holiday and office parties, family reunions and other special events. The ship can comfortably accommodate around 250 passengers. “Out of Time,” the movie starring Denzel Washington was filmed on the boat. Be aware that the boat does not sail daily. Island Boat Tours, the paddlewheel’s sister company, however, does offer daily Manatee and Dolphin Watch tours of the 1,000 islands from another local location.

The Indian River Queen is a wonderful way to spend time on the water. Everyone on staff makes you feel welcome. The very capable and friendly crew tries their best to serve you, engaging you in conversation when time permits. Penny Sheridan Flaherty, owner of the Paddlewheel runs a tight ship. The ship, now a landmark, has been serving the area since 2004. I recommend this river cruise to locals and tourists alike.
