this is a great place to stay with kids of any age. 3 or 4 different pools and water play areas, lake with a sandy beach and play equipment, fishing, paddle boats, jet skis, just about anything for everyone. very nice rooms with full kitchens. great place! we can't wait to go back. Very close to Disney, Sea World and golf. The staff is wonderful, the landscaping crew does a great job!

My brother and his family has this place as part of his timeshare. We had a three bedroom condo. It was so beautiful. It worked out great with the three bedroom condo, which turned out to be two condos which joined by a shared enterance. The condos were very roomy. The kids used the one bedroom condo durring the day as a place to relax and hang out. Which gave the parents the other condo. We loved the grounds and pool areas. Mini golf was a fun thing to do in the evenings. The grocery store next door (publix) was handy in a pinch but extreamly expensive. Drive a bit further to find a cheaper place for the groceries. The security was good. Leather furniture was great. Sleeper sofa bed not comfortable, would not use as an extra bed. There is no housekeeping during your stay but we were fine with that.

I found the washer and dryers great for your dirty towels and clothes.

Pros: Beautiful spacious rooms with kitchens and living rooms
Great Pools
Free Transportation to Disney
Helpful staff
Free transportation to Grocery store
Little extras like karaoke, bands, free arts and crafts
Washer and dryer in room
Comfortable beds

Cons:
transportation to Disney takes half hour to an hour
guests responsible for keeping their room clean
No maid service unless you pay extra
No extra towels unless you pay extra
Found two cochroaches
No free shuttle from airport
Can only get internet for a fee

Tips:
Take bus to and from airport it's a lot cheaper than taxi and it's not that hard to use even though it takes a long time and requires a few transfers.

We just returned from a seven day extended family vacation at Summer Bay Resort. We were there from February 8 – 15th. Our family split up and stayed in three of the resort’s Villas, two rooms were in building 104 and the third in building 105. All three were nice upon initial inspection and the layout was wonderful. Walking into a Villa leads you directly into a decent size living room with a leather couch and chair, coffee table and older tv and DVD player. There is a four-chair dining room table and a kitchen that is updated with nice appliances including a dishwasher, full refrigerator, and microwave. There is also a breakfast bar area as well. Behind the living room is the second bedroom and the main bathroom. The main bathroom in building 104 was a nice size with a large vanity and a regular bathtub/shower. The main bathroom in building 105 was a decent size as well but the layout was a little cumbersome. I’m sure the door was made extra wide to be handicap accessible but it made getting in and out of the bathroom difficult because you had to wedge yourself between the toilet and bathtub to close the door.
Directly behind the entry door is the master bedroom. All three of our Villas had king beds in the master bedroom with an older model tv, armoire, two nightstands and a spacious closet stocked with extra linens. The bathroom off of all three master bedrooms was a decent size with a Jacuzzi tub but a smaller bathroom vanity. All three units had lots of storage space with closets containing shelves, dressers, armoires etc.

My only complaint about the Villas was that I found the floors to be filthy. If I walked around in white socks the soles would be black within three or four hours. It was quite appalling. My other complaint is lodged in this one as the only housekeeping available is fee based. You had to wash your own towels (there was a washer and dryer in the unit), make your own beds, and even take out your own trash. If you ran out of trash bags, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent or toilet paper you had to purchase it yourself. I was very irritated by this as I don’t go on vacation to continue to clean up after my family. It may not bother others but I just wanted to point it out so guests knew about this up front.

As far as the grounds go, they were beautiful. Very nicely landscaped, lots of palm trees. There are four pools. All but the children’s pools are heated and wonderful. We used the pool by the clubhouse and it was wonderful. Never overly crowded. We could always find a chair to rest our things on while we swam. Towels were available for use so we didn’t have to lug them from our room. The pool has a nice view of the lake which looked like fun but very cold! We didn’t go down there at all because our kids loved the pool. There is a really nice interactive water feature/sprayground in one of the children’s pools but it is not heated. Neither children’s pool we found was heated. This was disappointing as our kids would have had a riot in them but it was just too cold.

There are two jungle gyms for kids available which was wonderful. The one closest to the clubhouse is perfect for younger toddlers. The one closer to the entrance of the property is great for children a bit older.

The clubhouse had a “gift” shop similar to a convenience store which was nice, a little pricey, but it was expected. They even sold hand dipped ice cream and they had a small grill as well. There was also a business center with internet access. They charged .20 a minute. The computers were nice, it was a small and cramped room but served it’s purpose. We did not realize they had scheduled activities for children until we went to use the business center near the end of our trip. The activities looked fun as the children we passed were painting their own Summers Bay t-shirts in one instance. The fitness center is very small but equipment seemed updated. It was being used quite frequently.

As far as the outlying neighborhood there a Publix, Blimpie, and Godmothers Subs within walking distance. Other than that I wouldn’t walk anywhere else. Within the surrounding mile or so of Summers Bay there is not much around but dive bars and tacky souvenir stores, but if you head a bit further (closer to Disney) and there are a bunch of chain restaurants: Houlihan’s, Carraba’s, Cici’s, Dairy Queen, IHOP, McDonalds etc.

All in all I enjoyed our trip to Summers Bay and would even recommend it with an asterisk about the lack of housekeeping.

Stayed at Summer Bay Resort as it was recommended by a colleague. Booked a room that had 2 bedrooms. First time visit to Florida. Place was beautiful, area was well maintained, staff was very friendly. There were a few bugs, and if I recall correctly, there was even a few gigantic cockroaches outside our door - luckily they never made it through inside our unit.

There were numerous pools. However, only one was open until late at night. And of course, it was always crowded once we went - because a full day of going to the parks deserves a rest by the pool at night!

Security was good. If having visitors, let the security know and they can get a guest pass to get in.

Had to pay a ton to use the internet. Decided not to...

Overall, I would definately go back!
