“Great Location and Brilliant Staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2013

We loved our stay at this hotel, The staff where so helpful and kind. The location is brilliant being right on the beach. The rooms where large and clean and had everything you wanted in them to enjoy your stay. I would definitely stay here again, as it is great value.

Maybe the halls are old and shabby but the rooms are clean with good beds. Remember it is on the beach and beautiful. The rates are reasonable for the average person. How often when an older hotel is torn down a condo or upscale hotel takes its place and the chance to stay on the beach is lost. Enjoy the beautiful beach and sunset. The staff is friendly and the rooms are fine.

Where do we start? From the front desk, to Frank the head of maintenance, or Louis who works the beach, these are some of the most hospitable people that we have ever encountered on a vacation! The extra effort put forth by this group was exceptional to say the least.

Now to the good part. The Tropix staff is amazing! And yes, I will name drop again. Debi blue eyes, Bruce, Eric, Gary and Matt were some of the highlights of our stay. This crew seems to belong together and treated everyone with great respect and courtesy. Some of the best people that we've encountered. And my goodness the locals! Again, this group was amazing, made us feel at home, and treated us like we belonged there.

All amazing people, and we look forward to making it back soon! Maybe even for the twelve bars of Christmas!

Room Tip: Pool side was very nice.

Arrived here at the behest of my wife, who wanted a few days on the beach. Got a good rate. While the rooms run parallel to the beach, you still get a pretty good view to one side of the bay or the other. There are some rooms on each floor facing the beach directly, but they cost much, much more. It is an older hotel with an attached IHOP - a nice feature. The food at IHOP was what you would expect and hope for from any IHOP - both breakfast and supper were quite good. The hotel was cramped in just about every place possible - even the elevators felt hopelessly claustrophobic - the luggage cart is almost a custom fit for them, including height-wise. The rooms do have a refrigerator and microwave - a nice touch. But there is no desk - just a table with two of the worst chairs you will ever sit in. There is a balcony, and the chairs out there are about the best they have (including in the lobby). The beds are older, lumpy and generally uncomfortable. Considering how many ultra-tiny bathrooms I've seen in hotels, these aren't so bad size-wise. But the shower is hopeless - the water pressure is but a trickle, and the shower head is mounted way too low to do much good. Very few power outlets, and good luck reaching the surge strip behind the TV. At least one lamp didn't work our entire stay. The water is beyond awful - make sure you buy or bring bottled water. But the worst feature is probably the front desk staff - time and again, they were nowhere to be found. They were friendly enough if you could find them. But on check-out, I just had to drop my keys and go - even though I needed to talk to them about something. All-in-all, about what you would expect for an older property on the beach. They take advantage of their private beach area (and pool area which walks quickly out onto the beach). And that is, after all, what people go there for.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better - but forget using the "REQUEST" line on your reservation...

We went during 4th of July weekend, so I felt crowded the whole town was overflowing with people and parking was hard to find no matter where you went. The hotel was small the beach was even smaller, they could have raked the sand to get rid of some of the debris. They did have live entertainment that was creating more of a party atmosphere, the bar was very busy and hard to get a drink within a decent amount of time. They were offering food for a charge, that was nice. But, it rained our entire stay, we only had a few hours each day to site see, the public beachside parking was terrible. You are better off walking to the public beach or catching the trolley. It was nice having an IHOP on site although it gets pricey, after staying a few days. We have a family on 5 so an included breakfast would have been nice. Frenchy's Rocaway was amazing we dined there one night. Over all I would stay here again but not with my family I would do it as a couples getaway, I believe a bigger hotel with a bigger beach is in order for families with multiple children who may want to run and play. Oh and the customer service was up to par no problems there.

We arrived here after staying in Orlando to chill out but when we tried to check in were advised that our booking had been cancelled! The company we had booked with in March had gone bust so we had to pay again, not only that we had to pay double what we had already payed! not very happy tried to find somewhere else but it was very hot we were worn out from travelling so payed double they would Not let us have the room at the original price we payed, on the plus side they waved the 10$ a night parking fee but still feel hard done by. The room was OK for a beach hotel nothing special bit old fashioned! Bathroom very small coffee not very hot, beach small charged for sun beds $25 so didn't bother pool was nice. There is also alot of building work going on next door so you get woke up early!

Room Tip: check out your room first you could be looking onto a building site! and be woken at 7.30!

I stayed here on a last minute decision . The hotel is in a good location less crowded then by the Hilton etc. It had a nice private area on the beach. We walked next door to shepherds for some night entertainment. The room was clean and average with a nice view. There is a Ihop attached to the hotel , which I might add is slower than molasses. The hotel it self was a nice stay, but they don't really give you anything extra for your nights stay like continental breakfast etc. It's a decent place to stay for the person that doesn't want to spend Hilton prices or stay in a mom and pop...middle of the road....
