This family owned motel is clean, right in the center of Clearwater Beach walk to restaurants, to Pier 60, directly across from the beach and on the Bay right next to the Pirate Ship. Very reasonably priced. Very family friendly. The staff is accomadating and friendly. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We enjoy the rooms by the Pirate ship tables and chairs to enjoy a cold drink or eat a snack. Some r...

My husband and I just spent 2 wonderful nights at this spotless property. I grew up at 440 West Condominiums on Clearwater Beach and am very particular when it comes to Clearwater Beach accommodations. Sea Captain did not disappoint me. It was CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!! The staff was extremely welcoming and very eager to please. Want a chair for the beach, no problem, just ask and they magically appear for you -- also in pristine condition! Need towels for the pool -- just ask and you shall receive. The facility is only 1 block from the beach - a very easy walk. Once you get your fill of all the beach action, you can return to the Sea Captain and relax by their pool on the bay. It was quite enjoyable to watch the ships come and go from the docks. I will definitely come back!

Room Tip: We had room 28, which is a shared balcony with 2 other rooms - next time I would prefer to have my o...

Was gifted a time share week at Orange Lake Resort, knew 7 days wouldn't be enough time so I started researching Florida beaches. Looked at Cocoa Beach first then Clearwater. Hit on "Discover Clearwater Beach" tourism page...tried to enter a contest sponsored by Frenchy's, not eligible as a Canadian. Trip Advisor window popped up directing me to Sea Captain Resort on the Bay, read EVERY comment, viewed photos and FELL IN LOVE! Booked 3 days and knowing how WELL-KEPT and CLEAN motel was, we wished we had a week THERE instead. We had a street side efficiency, with 2 double beds. Immaculate grounds keeping, pristine pool and spa, professional landscaping, family-friendly, Met many return guests who have chosen this motel for over 20 years and now their children and grandchildren LOVE it too! Best photos of pelicans from wharf side, Kids liked shuffleboard and Cornhole game. 3 bike/helmets provided for free! What motel does that? Less than a 5 minute walk to Clearwater Beach and pure white sand as soft as ICING SUGAR! Communal balcony a big hit for meals over-looking the water. Free continental breakfast on weekends, and free oj and coffee in office every morning! Attention to detail here, friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Can't say enough on the positives, we will book early for same room as the 27 rooms available book up months in advance. We went to the SUNSET FESTIVAL each night on PIER 60, great audience participation! Thank you to the guests and staff we met who shared their favourite eateries, boat tours, and highlights. LOVE IT, can't wait for next spring!

Room Tip: Efficiency units come in handy for quick and cheap meals. BBQ available, you have to buy your own c...

We really enjoyed a few days here.
The location is perfect with the beach just across the road, or the lovely marina right outside.
We could sit by the pool, or right at the waters edge of the marina, watching the boats come and go.
The room was always spotless, and the maid service excellent.
Every person we spoke to had been there many times before.
That's not only U.S. visitors,(of which we met quite a few repeat visitors) a Scottish couple and a Belgian couple had been there for many years.
We had no problem with the internet access, we were in an upstairs room and it was fine.
Free coffee and orange juice daily, and a lovely free breakfast of pastries and muffins at weekends.
We aren't really ones for going back to the same place, as there are so many wonderful places in America. But if we went back to Clearwater Beach, we would definitely go to the Seacaptain.

Room Tip: Upstairs was lovely as you can watch the marina action, but downstairs looked great as well.

Love this place. I am a smoker and you are allowed to smoke outside your room. That said, everything else about the sea captain very enjoyable as well. Great people keep coming back year after year and they are great people. There is a rumor that the place is up for sale, I hope not. I for one would surely miss it.

This was our third visit to this hotel. First the positive, the place continues to be immaculate. Peppy was out there at 6AM cleaning and making sure that every surface was polished and perfect. The office staff good, although we did not have a lot of contact with them this trip. The room was kept clean and neat, bed and pillows were good too. Extremely convenient location, just minutes from the beach. We left early each day and walked the few minutes to the beautiful beach. Lovely water and sand, but packed to the rafters with people. If you are a smoker and don't use the internet much, you can stop reading here. The place is great and you will love it, as we did the last two times.

Now comes the issues that we had a problem with. First off, the internet upstairs is not very good, you can get a connection that comes and goes, but only at the door in your room, forget reading your email in bed, no connection there. Perhaps it is better for rooms downstairs or in other locations, but for us who were in the upper middle, not useable. Mostly I tried to sit at the table on the balcony with my laptop to do my work - which leads me to the more serious problem of the SMOKE. Considering that only a small percentage of people are smokers, the folks who come here are almost entirely all smokers. This was our third and last visit and the smoke seems to be worse each time. There is nowhere to go to avoid it, especially if you need to use the internet to work. I realize that some folks reading this will say that nobody was smoking when they were there, I guess that it was just our bad luck each time. Then comes the NOISE, folks sit outside at the tables, most smoking, and their conversation is magnified so that it is quite loud. To watch TV, we just went into the bedroom which was quieter and did not smell of smoke.

I shared my concerns in writing with their management. Really sorry, I like this place, the excellent location, decent price, cleanliness but I just cannot handle the smoke. We are very allergic and spent a lot of time coughing.

Holidayed with family over what is termed the 'Easter break' in the UK - April 2014. Found this gem of a place via 'Tripadvisor' and stayed for two weeks. We loved every minute of a truly relaxing break. Sea Captain is in a great location, just minutes walk from the beach and Pier 60.The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, we stayed in two rooms, as there were seven of us, (room 21 overlooking the pool which was perfect) and room 16 (which is at the side of the property).
Would have liked two rooms overlooking the pool, and the bay, but hotel was full (not surprised) and these were the only ones available. Staff are really friendly and helpful and work really hard to make your stay enjoyable, nothing is too much trouble. The pool and outside areas are immaculate, all thanks to Pepe, who is at work before the sun is up and takes a real pride in his work. This hotel has real 'old world charm', so much nicer than the 'high rise' blocks of the hotel chains.
Would recommend this place, we all loved our stay, and my granddaughters (ages 9 and 7) loved the pool, in fact we couldn't keep them out of it. There are loungers all round the pool, so they could swim to their hearts content, while we all lazed around in the sun - perfect. Pool towels are supplied which is another bonus. There is coffee and orange juice available every morning in reception area, and pastries and muffins are available at the weekend, which is a really nice touch. We would most certainly stay here again, we loved the atmosphere of the place, most people we chatted to during our stay were return visitors. Some people had been visiting every year for twenty years or more, which kind of says it all.
