“Above and Beyond Service”
Reviewed March 24, 2007

My daughter, I and two of her friends stayed at this resort over spring break for two nights. The room was very nice, having been recently remodeled. There was a refrigerator, coffee maker and plenty of storage room. Also, the girls appreciated all the extra plugs everywhere to plug in cell phone chargers, and the alarm clock that they could plug their Ipods into and play music outloud. The beds were super comfortable also. The bathroom was a little small, but nicely redone and we always had plenty of towels just for the asking. Even though it was spring break, this end of the beach was never overly crowded. There was lots of room to spread out on the gorgeous white sand. There was also a beverage cart that would serve you mixed drinks and other beverages right on the beach. The thing that made our stay stand out, however, was the great service everywhere. The valets, the bellhops, the front desk personnel all were quick to offer assistance and always friendly.

There was one employee that stood out. I accidentally left my cell phone at a table by the tiki hut on the day of our departure. I didn't realize my mistake until an hour and a half later when we got home. I called the hotel and Tom, in shipping and receiving, went out to the tiki hut, retrieved the phone, and went out of his way and way above the call of duty to get the phone back to me quickly. It was a relief, and just really nice to have someone so helpful. It just capped off a stay that was full of great service. We will stay here again.

We had enough points for a free stay, and picked Clearwater Beach because it was warm but far enough away from the Spring Break Crowd.

Flew into Tampa Airport and rented a car. WARNING - if you have a GPS, you might have trouble getting to Clearwater Beach. Apparently the causeway across the bay has had construction. Our GPS kept trying to take us to closed roads. Eventually we found our way and pulled up to the hotel around 7:30 pm. You have 2 dining options at the hotel. One is upscale, the other is a bar with food. Choose the upscale one. Food is excellent and presentation is very nice.

Downside - I like to walk in the evening after dinner. There isn't really much around to walk to - maybe 5 shops, a couple of bars, and a few restaurants in the immediate area. Oh, and LOTS of construction. They are building lots of new condo's. The pier that is written up is just a playground and some artists - not an evenings entertainment.

Still - the hotel was very nice, the beach was clean and had powdery white sand. VERY NICE! We rented a cabana and enjoyed 2 days on the beach. The cabana gave good shelter to the wind (it was windy all 3 days - don't know if thats the normal weather pattern or if it was unusually windy during our stay.

We asked about shopping, walking, etc in the area. Our bellman told us to drive south to Madera beach. It's a collection of restaurants (two nice seafood ones) and shops. It's worth driving down there if for no other reason than to see the upscale beach houses on the drive down. We ate at Scullys because the other one (fisherman???) only had 2 cooks in the kitchen and stopped taking reservations. Scullys was excellent - we had grouper, shrimp, lobster tails and soup. And terrific key lime pie.

All in all, would I stay at the hilton again? The bigger question is would I go back to Clearwater beach? If I were just looking to unwind and didn't want any entertainment, sure. And if I went back I would stay at the Hilton. I just prefer a little night life in a beach town. But thats just me

We booked our Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort through the Hilton Grand Vacation Club member reservation. We have visited Hilton resorts around US (incl. Hawaii), Rome and Cacun sites. This is not the best Hilton resorts we've visited, but, this is one of the top location you can find.

The resort sits on a well-developed location and right on the Clearwater beach. Two nicely-maintained outdoor swimming pools and whirlpool really help soothing down the beach-sunburns. On-site and off-site restaurants are all very good - with very reasonable prices.

The hotel is under constant renovation, therefore, certain area are closed, yet, we don't find it inconvenient at all. Staff at front desk, restaurant, house-keeping...etc are all very friendly and helpful.

We visited this location 23+ years ago when we just started family and the hotel was brand-new. After many many moons later, we found it still a very relaxing place to go: it provides the same level of relaxation - for young couple/family and older couple/family.

Footnote:
1. Crabby Bill 1/2 block around the rotary is a must-to-visit restaurant
2. Cooter's Monday/Tuesday crab-leg-buffet and Frenchy's stone-crab festival are two good happy-hour seafood restaurants
3. A small chinese Tan's Eatery one street down is actually pretty good on their lunch specials
4. For a quick sandwich, drop by the Subways on Mandalay Avenue across from the Hilton.

Hotel lobby near the ground entrance has a closet of coupons, maps, where-to's and how-to's, make sure to get some of those before exploring the Clearwater Beach!

We stayed at this Hilton March 9-12. Construction on lower levels of hotel made us thankful we were on the sixth floor. Our room was recently remodeled but bathrooms remain a little small. Hilton beach location and condition is great, municipality provides excellent daily cleaning of beach. Hilton charges to rent chairs/umbrella daily, can become a little pricey. However they provide food and drink delivery directly to beach, nice touch.
Would recommend, less expensive Island Way for breakfast, two blocks from hotel, on a side street. One block away is Frenchy's Salt Water Cafe, very good and reasonably priced. Wonderful food for dinner/lunch at Island Way Grill, long walking distance across first causeway on left, recommend reservations. Publix grocery store one block past this restaurant on Island Way Road.

Very Well managed resort. Extremely Friendly Staff, clean rooms & facilities. The beach in front of the hotel is pristine & fairly quiet. The pool area has a nice separation between families traveling w/ kids and others. Good location too...short walk along the strip to several bars/restaurants. Also, public beach nearby if you want to play volleyball/frisbee or prefer a busier atmosphere. Visited twice now and will likely return.

We are currently still staying at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort. The hotel is undergoing renovations on the fourth floor, right above our heads. It's been terribly loud at times, and we've received three notices slipped under our door so far, and we've only been here 3 days. Each note describes the newest inconvenience we can expect..the latest one? Tonight the water will be shut off overnight from 1am till 5am. (earlier today was the jackhammer!!) Requests to change room to one without so much contruction overhead, have been totally ignored, although I bumped into another woman today who said her room was being changed (mind you, she was upset she had booked a suite and when she arrived, it had been given to someone else) The room we are in, does not have a balcony, nor a beach view. Instead, we face a rooftop rull of ugly air conditioning units. A walk of various floors and ends of this hotel, show me that very few rooms have a beach view. Some overlook a parking lot of garbage, or just the parking lot of this hotel which you actually must pay daily to use. We paid the cheaper fee to park ourselves, put find each day a hassle to find parking since the hotel sells the spaces to people using the beach! Our room is disgustingly old, dingy, dark, the toilet screeches, and the handle on the sink leaks all over the counter. The beds are uncomfortable to say the least. Hmmm.it's 10:20pm at the moment, and there's still hammering upstairs for the renovations. (granted, the person doing the work is clearly trying to remain quiet and respectful as the tapping sound is quieter than the daytime. No freebies here. You must pay for coffee, pay for parking, pay for beach chair rentals, pay for drinks by the pool (you are not permitted to bring your own drinks to the pool, nor bring a cooler on the beach). We are frequent travellers and have never stayed at a HIlton before. We will not choose this again. A discount rate should at least be applied, not to mention we should have been forwwarned of this hotel construction (we were told our room is being totally demolished in two weeks, yet the hotel doesn't mind charging us full price for it). It is evident that the staff is mostly friendly, but it's also evident they are getting alot of negative feedback from guests this week. An extremely disappointing Hilton experience.
