The location of the Sand key is great mostly because of the quiet area away from the Pier and a very easy walk to the beach. Most reviews say the walk is too far, but really the beach is right on the property and takes 2 minutes to walk. If you are an elderly person and have difficulty walking they will drive you to the shore with their little buggies...but for those that like a short walk, its' really not a big deal. The sand is white and soft and the walk is enjoyable. Volleyball by the beach is available. The pool is too small and gets to crowded. For the size of the property it really should be bigger. The negatives are the size of the bathrooms in this hotel. I needed to walk into the bathroom and then close the bathroom door. Thankfully the sink was on the outside of the bathroom. If you are a large sized adult, you will seriously have issues with the size of this bathroom. The furnishings are a bit outdated. We had a room which was an inside corner room and it was quite dark. I prefer a well lit room with plenty of sunshine. We were on a club level floor and I guess I presumed the rooms would have been better. I was going to ask for a different room but we were tired and had just driven from Orlando and Legoland and we were all exhausted and starving. The breakfast in Club Room was good enough, they just needed to offer a little different variety each morning. We were there for 3 days and the only thing that changed was the sweet pastries of the day. They should have offered healthier options, such as low fat muffins or low fat breads. Coffee, jucies and hot chocolate were good. Evening appetizers were quite good. The staff at club level seems a bit tired and frustrated. Restos: Rusty's for dinner buffet, was good. Lunch diner: Dinner was affordable and quick but the hostess that greeted us was miserable and not welcoming at all. I guess management needs to improve. The outdoor little snack bar served junk food and that's about all, so did not eat there. Overall beach was gorgeous which makes the property worth visiting. The hotel needs an upgrade (bathrooms, carpets, matresses, doors on outside are scratched or peeling). If upgrades are made, this hotel would be a gem. Also, the walls are paper thin which makes it hard to fall asleep. My rating is average to very good. Average for rooms, very good for location.
