“Very chillaxing”
Reviewed April 15, 2011

I was a bit worried about the Sheraton having read a few reviews and we got off to a worrying start.

Upon arrival they made us an very good offer to stay at another hotel for one night due to overbooking. When we said no there was no issue at all-this was accepted and off to our room.

THE ROOM

The room is fine. It had a balcony with a partial bay view. The bed was huge and very comfortable. There was a large 32" LCD television with a good selection of channels. What was interesting is that you could order a few cinema movies direct to the TV. Depending on the movie this ranged in price but was still slightly cheaper than going to the cinema.

The bathroom was small but as one person said, how much time do you really spend in there. At first having the sink outside was unusal, but was actually very practical, allowing me to use the sink whilst my other half was in the shower.

Downside to the room is no fridge. Each night i would fill the ice bucket so i could keep drinks cold. A small friedge would have been handy.

The maids were first class and did a great job. They never disturbed you when the sign was up and unlike some other hotels, they came back to do the room in the afternoon. A big plus.

The balcony was small with two rickety seats and a table. Not in the best condition, but we never used it other than to dry swimsuits.

There was a large gap under the front door and the interconnecting room did allow noise to travel. Although i am a light sleeper it didn't keep me awake. If you are worried, take a pair of ear plugs and you will be fine.

THE FOOD

We ate in the Tavern quite a few times. They had a good menu and i can't fault the food. The service was great and Nate the barman was very friendly and looked after us well.

Rusty's had a lovely carvery which we tried on our last night. Had i tried it on the first night i would have visited more.

The Island Grill was great for lunch and like the Tavern, it had first class service from the staff. Plus the Police ate there regularly and no one knows good food like cops!

Room service was great, and very reasonable IMO.

THE FACILITIES

The pool is too small. It has a fantastically deep end (8ft) but trying to use it during the day was an obstacle course due to kids. Not their fault in the slightest but be aware the hotel does seem to have a lot of kids. There are plenty of liungers, though trying to get one near the pool can be tough. Spread out to the gardens or the steps to the beach and it should be no problem. The pool and gardens are well maintained. I used the pool in and around 7pm when it was empty. During the day it was literally a quick plunge to cool down and out.

The internet cafe is very handy and i can only think of one time i couldn't use it due to a queue. They have touch screens and printing facilities. Very handy.

I had a massage there and i was amazed at both the level of service and the price. Natalie (i think) was fantastic and helped ease away a few knots i had built up. A very very professional set up without making you feel uncomfortable.

THE BEACH

The beach is about 300 metres from the hotel. If you are able bodied and can't walk that distance without complaining then you have bigger issues than the distance. It was a lot quieter than Clearwater thankfully. The water is murky but it didn't stop people. We had several beautiful walks along that beach with amazing sunsets. Everytime i went down i saw dolphins. Go to Walmart and buy a pair of beach shoes-$6 for a pair and will save those feet.

All in all this was an excellent choice. What made it a step above a good hotel was the staff. They were fantastic and i would not hesitate in going back

Any questions please feel free to get in touch

The hotel is well kept, but there are a few things to watch out for.

The beach - for a place called "Clearwater", the water isn't clear at all. I didn't expect crystal clear, but I didn't expect to be swimming in murky waters, either. The sand isn't as white as other places along the gulf coast, and it is quite gritty and full of shells that make it uncomfortable to walk without shoes. You can rent cabanas for $25 / day, which may be a good move if you burn easily.

The pool - too small and overrun with screaming kids. Better there than on the beach, I suppose.

The food - we were only there 4 nights, so we didn't get bored with it. Their buffet, while priced reasonably, fails to offer enough variety from night to night. We did find a place called "Columbia" across the street which served cuban food and was quite nice.

The room - clean but way too cramped. We were on the 6th floor. Not sure if other floors have larger rooms. Navigating the bathroom was certainly an adventure.

Internet access was a problem. Only free WiFi was available in a corner of the bar. They have some computers you can use for free in the business center, but those are impossible to get due to kids using them to be on Facebook all day long. The hotel should enforce the time limit. If you want WiFi in your room, it's $10 a day.

Oh my! I can not imagine what was going on that the water was murky unless it was the week where we had several storms. That is truly not a comment we hear. The spring time is a very popular time for families to visit our resort. It is our hope that with the pool, beach and area activities, the pool and beach don’t get too over crowded. However, there are many times during the year when the weather is beautiful and the resort isn’t as full. I am glad you found our hotel clean and well maintained, and we hope that you will visit again.

Just returned from a trip to Clearwater Beach. Thank you to Jerry at the front desk for getting us a great room with a spectacular view of the Gulf! All the staff are very friendly and helpful, especially the staff at the restaurants. The last time that we visited was in November and it was much quieter. Will probably shoot for that time again next year.
The location is great if you want to get away from the noise and crowds in Clearwater Beach. The rooms are clean and well maintained.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and were pleased with your room. Spring time is indeed a very busy time for Clearwater Beach and our hotel. If you prefer a more quiet atmosphere - you are right - some of the off season dates are better. We look forward to your return visit!

Were given a dark corner room overlooking the tennis courts and beside loud vending area. Requested relocation both nights and were denied. Walking distance to great restaurants Backwater Grille and Maggie Mae's. Pool was very small and jam packed both days as the beach was too windy.

Again everyone was so happy and helpful on the staff. Too small of a pool no repsect from many kids and parents. Sometimes service at pool sometime no..... thin walls. I was told there would be entertainment and there was not....... To pay 25 a day for a chair on the beach when we were paying 225.00 a night is sad, very disappointed.

Thank you for your comments on our staff. We truly do care about taking care of our guests. I am terribly sorry to hear we misinformed you in regards to entertainment and that our service at the pool was inconsistent. We do have a separate concession running the beach chairs and there is a charge for them. We do this in lieu of charging a resort fee. I know this can sometimes be a disappointment, but we only want our guests to pay for the extra amenities that they choose to use. I hope you understand our philosophy on this, and that you will return to our resort and give us an opportunity to serve you again in the future.

I stayed here with my family over Spring break and payed 262$ a night for a room with 2 queen beds and a view of the parking lot. All I kept on thinking was, "I can't believe this room cost this much!" The bathroom is so tiny and space around sink so limited that we had to keep our toiletries in our suitcase. There is no fridge or microwave. The furniture on our balcony was rusty and the bathroom was not clean (I hate having to say that because I know maids work so hard!)
There were 3 conferences going on here and I think this would be a great place to stay if on business! Of course we were surrounded by college age sping breakers and heard them all night. One of our comforters was dirty but quickly changed. We were even given free breakfast vouchers. The pool was too crowded to use- but the beach was lovely. We actually stayed out on the beach longer than we would've because we didn't want to go back to our depressing room. We did see dolphins from the beach!
