“Come for the atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2014

This is the original Frenchy's and the one favored by the locals. The decor is authentic, if not pretty, and the food and service is excellent.

The interior is small and cramped, so prepare for a wait during busy periods... but it is worth it!

“This place has good food...but it is tiny and crowed!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2014

Frenchy's is a local chain specializing in gulf seafood. Some of the specials are well priced. The stone crab is high priced. Lots of fried fish - so if that's not your gig, then watch out. Cold beer and plenty of TV's. This place is tiny, and parking is metered and awful!

“Always a favourite”

The sea food gumbo sets up your appetite for the shrimp and oysters that should follow. This place is a must for every visitor to the Beach

“Could the service have been slower?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014

So we were there at the holidays (December 30th) for a day in Clearwater before we flew out of Tampa. After seeing the beach, on the walk back to the hotel, we stopped for dinner. They were not full and there was not a line for seating so we figured we beat the rush. The menu was diverse and interesting and the prices were reasonable. Our problem was with the slow, slow, slow, slow service. We sat outside and it took 15 minutes before our waitress greeted us. Then forever before our drinks came and she took the order. We then waited forty five minutes for basic burgers. In fact I think we would have waited longer had we not gone to the hostess (waitress didn't return) and let her know we were walking out in five minutes. She told us one of the cooks had not shown up and the kitchen had "tickets everywhere". As a business owner I understand that staffing can go astray from time to time, but when customer service goes below a certain standard management can ease the discomfort simply by making you feel valued. Comp a round of drinks, discount the meal, offer free desserts, etc. Management could have also closed a section of the restaurant, paid the server or shifted them to expediting food, and kept service standards high.
Once we got the food it was fine but by then we were cold (because we were outside and the sun was down) and grumpy.

“An Old Friend on the Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2014

We've been going to Frenchy's since it opened in 1981 and have watched the business grow and some of the waitresses grow up (tho we haven't :-). It is more like a community than a restaurant. Lots of locals, and plenty of tourists. Cute, friendly waitresses - oh and the food - did I mention the food - always very fine - great Greek salad, grouper cheeks, stone crab (in season), burgers - well you get my drift.

A trip to the Beach is not complete without a trip to the original Frenchy's - (note this one is not on the beach). All the other Frenchy's are great too - but we have a special place in our hearts for the original.
