“Best on the beach!”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

Recently visited hometown and had beautiful dining experience at the Beachcomber -- only one of the long-time wonderful restaurants remaining on Clearwater Beach.......fantastic fantail shrimp dinner, superb service and classic atmosphere - well worth the mid-price range!

“A great dining experience !!!”
Reviewed March 1, 2013 via mobile

Family of six. Sunday 7:30pm reservation and the place was to capacity. I had mentioned that I had some younger children who were a little underdressed (jeans). We were warmly greeted and immediately seated.
From beginning to end (about two hours) this was a wonderful experience. My wife joked that we were by far the youngest group but we were not made to feel that way.
Oysters and crab were very good starters and I do recommend the bronzed grouper for dinner.. They have some items on the menu that you don't see as much anymore (frog legs, chicken livers). My daughter tried the frog legs and really enjoyed them. Others had Prime Rib and Lobster - all very good.
We all sampled the relish tray for fun. A very relaxing experience overall. I loved the look and feel of the restaurant and the piano player helped add to the experience.

“Good but not great”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

We were a large group, and we got decent service. The food was good. I would go back. I had a decent steak and the dessert was especially good.

“Very good steak and vintage feel inside”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Ate with clients and a party of 10, usually can be slow and food mediocre when trying to eat with a big party but was very pleased with food and steak was very good and I am the type that does not eat steak at longhorns or applebys, more of the high end steak house kind of person, and I thought they did a really nice job.

“Old School - but very good”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

This really is a throwback. We went (in shorts and flip flops) to make a booking during the afternoon. Staff were friendly enough. We had a table for two booked that evening at 8pm and made some effort to dress up (not shorts and t-shirts). There are 4 different areas - a bar/bistro for casual dinng, and a restaurant, with an outside terrace area and two half-separated dining areas inside. One seems more modern and light, with a high ceiling and big windows - the other is probably the original restaurant. This has a low ceiling, raised letahertte seating around the walls, with a sunken dining area in the middle and a bar. It feels very 'Dean Martin'! (in a good way).

We had a seat on the raised area, sitting side by side with a view over the dining room, and the piano player a few metres away.

Smartly uniformed servers offered us drinks to start, and gave us the HUGE menu and EVEN HUGER wine list. (there are two wine lists - one by the glass and one by the bottle)

Food is standard fare - steaks, seafood and chicken. Entrees come with a choice of potato/vegetable/salad/dressing, a basket of bread and a tray of four relishes.

Our drinks arrived quickly, and we were able to order shortly afterwards.

The food was good. Good ingredients and well cooked. The Baseball cut New York Strip Steak was very tasty, nd given that this is a cut that is likely to have some sinew, it was a quality piece of meat. My wife's choice of red snapper also looked delicious.

The restaurant was about half full, and most of the clientele were retirees. It was a pleasant atmosphere, and the service was attentive.

If this restaurant had not been in business for 50+ years then it could have come across as a pastiche, but actually it is working hard to maintain its reputation, and succeeding. It is a throwback to different times, but reassuring because of that.
