“Fun Stop”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

This was a fun stop for lunch. Sat outside overlooking the Gulf. The grouper salad was awesome. There's typically a 20 minute wait.

I didn't do my Tripadvisor prep-work before our short vacation, and for some reason I was expecting the menu to be a bit more "upscale", some kind of seafood platter or at least a few options for filets prepared in different ways. But Clearwater beach seems to be a grouper sandwich kind of town.

We tried the grouper nuggets, ceviche and grouper tamales. All of them were pretty good, and the check didn't break the bank. Service was fine, the manager or owner (?) came out to say hi and explain the origins of the tamales, which was cool.

I would have given this restaurant 3 stars because the menu didn't really "impress", but it gets the extra star for the bright, family atmosphere. The staff was very friendly to our 1.5-year-old.

The previous night we had followed the advice of the Sandpearl concierge and went to Cooters right next door to Frenchies. Cooters was darker and had more of a local feel, more of a drinking bar and not so much for familes. And the food wasn't as good in my opinion.

“Gotta have a Grouper Sandwich”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

I grew up in Clearwater..fishing and eating grouper. Frenchy's grouper sandwich is the one which will set the bar for all of your future grouper sandwiches! The original is beer batter fried... To perfection..that is until you try the Buffalo version..then the question of perfection gets a little grey! Also the Ceviche!!! Kiss tha cook! sangria..off the chain..cherry stone clams rank there too! There are several locations on Clearwater Beach...and other beaches..the original is a small hole in the wall you gotta try if you have a small group..like 2or 4... Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe is my favorite..on the inter-coastal water.. Great t shirts for souvenirs ..ohh the Greek Salad is great too..although they do not put potato Salad in the Greek Salad!

“Great food, excellent service”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

We stopped by after a day at Adventure Island and we wanted to try one of the Frenchy's because they got such good reviews.

This one was pretty good. You could tell the woman who waited on us had been doing it for a long time and knew just what we needed. Drinks and bread arrived immediately and were inhaled so quickly by hungry children that they didn't touch the table. Food was great (best burger I had on vacation) and we were able to sit on the porch in the breeze. Prices were a little higher than what I think a place like that should charge, but not worth quibbling about it.
