We went to this restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday and had a great dinner. Our food was delicious and it was served hot. The entrees are a little pricey but you get what you pay for. All the ingredients are fresh and the food was cooked to perfection! The chef came to our table and he was quite entertaining. It is a very small restaurant which gets you a lot of personal attention. The decor could be updated to match the quality of the food.

Located in a non-descript building that you have to watch for, this 30-seater is pleasant enough inside. Staffed with only two people, the hostess-wait person was pleasant and the chef made two appearances to make sure all was okay. (He needs to use his 'inside voice' more; louder isn't more charming.) Items were served piping hot, and French-flavorful. Vegetables were done just right, too. Pauliner beers are high at $6.50 for a 12-16 oz. bottle, and a glass of wine is 9 bucks. So the food is tasty, but at about $23-25 per plate (including salad) plus drinks, it's expensive for Clearwater.

Friendly greeting and pleasant surroundings. Smart casual would seem to be the dress.

Unfortunately, the food was mediocre considering the prices. One entree had to be returned to heat it up. The steak, which two of us ordered, was nicely cooked but the flavor was concealed under the accompanying sauce. This chef has never heard of napping. At least a cup of liquid over each steak The dauphinoise potatoes, with no surface browning, had so much nutmeg that they were inedible.

We would not return for a second chance. Too many other options.

We are sorry that your experience was not as satisfying as expected, considering all of our other reviewers' (from around the world, including the UK) great comments.
All the dishes are prepared at the same time and are all cooked on order the traditional way, which does not include a microwave to heat food to unreasonable temperatures.
The Gratin Dauphinois is a classic French recipe which calls for a pinch of nutmeg and has been very well received by the majority of our customers. Calling it "inedible" is slightly rude not only to us but to our other customers who very much enjoy it.
The style of our bistro is hearty French food, therefore sauces are in demand and very well appreciated, if you prefer for your steaks to be less saucy, you could have asked for it on the side, as nowhere in the menu does it mention the meat as being "napped".
I have to say that I am surprised by this review because when I stopped at your table and asked how your meal was, you all replied with a resounding "very well, thank you" and even complimented the meal.
If there was a problem, you should have voiced to me your concern at the time so I would have been able to accommodate to you rather than leaving a review which paints our establishment in a mediocre light as we do everything we can (that we are made aware of) to ensure an excellent experience.

We were not impressed with the outside, but once inside the door, we encounter a very friendly and outgoing greeter. After observing her work I asked if she did everything, including the cooking, and the answe was "I just take care of everything in the front".
At this time her husband came out to greet some other customers and also stopped by our table. He was most friendly and seemed happy to be doing what he loves (cooking), We had a "Capresse and also an Antipasto" for appetizers and later a Pasta Bolognesse and a Pasta Le Mer. All these were to die for. The pasta was house made, the sauces were just perfect to enjoy with the fresh made "baguette".
To finish a great meal we had "Creppe Suzzettes" and two Segaffredo coffees.
Great food, wonderful service, outstanding evening!!

Do not let the lack of curb appeal fool you! Salt N Pepper Bistro transcends the confines of the property through quality and service. The intimate seating is perfect for couples or small families and the decor is warm and well balanced. As soon as you enter you are greeted not only by a very welcoming hostess - who is an excellent waitress as well! - but you'll also hear French satellite radio and the authenticity definitely does not stop there. Salt N Pepper offers a moderate assortment of imported beer, house wine, Perrier, Evian, and the usual soft drinks. Escargot, bleu cheese temptation, and the classic french onion soup, among others, will practically beg you to whet your appetite with these French staples that taste better than their delectable descriptions. Not long after your appetizer is diligently delivered by the kind server, the chef himself comes out of the kitchen to ensure the food is satisfactory. Chef Jean-Claude is an absolute pleasure to talk to and he can definitely talk! This reviewer was satisfied absorbing all of the information about France that Jean-Claude had to offer and laughed more than a few times. Before long it will be time to select an entree, which is not an easy task. Salt N Pepper offers pork, poultry, and steak dishes as well as seafood, pasta dishes, and savory crepes. Although this reviewer can only vouch for the Duck a L'Orange - perfectly cooked, sweet, and savory - and the Flat Iron Steak - again, cooked perfectly to request and topped with an incredibly tasty green peppercorn sauce - I can safely say that anything on the menu will impress and leave your taste buds aching for more! The finale was just as perfect as the previous courses. Another near impossible choice, the dessert menu offers different styles of fruit, chocolate, and nutella crepes topped with homemade whipped cream. Although these crepes are big enough to share, you're going to find it hard to. Overall, the quality of food and service are well worth the price and it is not difficult to recommend. Bon appetite!
