Owner description: Ruth Eckerd Hall's near perfect acoustics have received rave reviews from artists, technicians and audience members since opening in 1983. Combined with state of the art equipment, comfortable amenities and world class entertainment, it's no wonder that it has been recognized as one of Tampa Bay's best concert halls numerous times as well as a finalist for Pollstar's Theater of the Year twice. In 2003, the Hall's audience chamber received a complete refurbishment, its 2,180 seats were reconfigured to accommodate more patrons with disabilities, and lobby and restrooms were expanded.Ruth Eckerd Hall has continental-style seating. Almost every patron prizes a center seat and continental-style provides the maximum possible. There are no support columns, no obstructed views. Seating is sloped and staggered. For safety and comfort, the aisle space is wider than traditional layouts; entry and exit can be made while patrons remain seated. There are 14 sets of double doors leading out from the audience chamber. With this configuration, a full house can be cleared in a matter of minutes.Among the original community leaders who conceptualized building a performing arts center this side of Tampa Bay, was Jack Eckerd. During construction, Mr. Eckerd designated a significant contribution as a birthday gift to his beloved wife, Ruth, making the dream a reality. The Hall proudly bears her name.

Awesome spot for a show. The seating was terrific, as was the sound. This place was a perfect intimate setting for any performance.

“Another great time at Ruth Eckerd Hall!”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

This is my first official review of Ruth Eckerd Hall although I have been there multiple times over the past 25 years. I have seen Broadway shows, comedy acts, and music concerts here and always had a great time.
This particular review is for the Alabama concert that was held on Saturday, July 6. One fabulous perk of going to this local theater is the convenience of it being in Pinellas County in a rather suburban area. There is no city traffic to contend with; also, basic parking is free!! That is a rarity no matter where you go; valet parking is available for additional cost.
There are 2 entrances to the theater, East and West. It really doesn't matter which entrance you choose, because once inside you can easily make your way to the other side if your entrance "portal" is located there.
Ruth Eckerd Hall offers food and drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Prices are what you would expect...$4.00 for a bottle of water or soda, $7.00 for a single shot of non-premium alcohol. There were also popcorn, candy, and sandwiches to be purchased. Anything purchased in the theater can be consumed in the theater during showtime so no need to rush to finish it all before the show starts!
There is a lovely patio area outside that has many tables and chairs to relax or smoke. There was live music outside pre-show and many people were enjoying the music.
Once inside the theater, I was always struck by how there really is no bad seat in the house. Of course it is nice to sit close up and near the middle but I have had seats just about anywhere and never been disappointed in the view or sound. The seats are nice and cushy and each has a cup-holder attached to the seat in front of you.
There are several areas in the theater where those in wheelchairs or scooters can watch the show accompanied by their guest. These areas have a few seats next to ample floor space to accommodate the wheelchair.
The concert we saw was wonderful, the sound quality was great during the singing but a little garbled during the between-song chatter. We were blinded several times by stage lighting moving up and down but I think I have had that at every concert I have ever attended!
Overall, this is a great theater that offers much to the community; they believe in keeping the arts alive and offer classes for children. You can become a member of the Hall; for an annual donation you are eligible for early purchase of tickets to events and also feel good that you are doing something good for the community by supporting the arts.

“Even the worst seats are great”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We recently went and saw Daniel Tosh's standup special here. Although the show was sold out, it seemed, the volunteers at the venue were still able to get everyone seated and into the hall quickly once we arrived. The lines for food and drinks were extremely long. One thing that we found was that even though we were in the Orchestra, row Z,(which was removable chairs they put in just for the show) we still had an amazing view and were right by the door so at the end we could get right out. The show was great and venue seemed very clean.
