Stayed for a week after a hectic week in Disney. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff who couldn't do enough to assist us. First night out the door staff drove us to the town and dropped us off at a great restaurant. The hotel was smart and stylish with a lovely bird in the reception area which kept the kids busy trying to get it to talk to them! The room, like the rest of the hotel was very clean and maids attended daily. The pool was fantastic and included a hot tub to the side. I really couldnt fault this hotel at all. It was very professionally run. The only negative coment I can make is that on the day we arrived it was my youngest Son's birthday and I had pre-ordered a birthday cake from the UK. When it was brought to the room, it turned out to be the top layer of a 3 tier wedding cake. I returned it and a few hours later the 'real' kids birthday cake arrived, but it was a little expensive at 40 dollars!
I would definately use it again and highly recommend it.

Stayed for a couple of nights in October. While not directly on the beach (or Gulf), it is only a 5 minute walk to get there. But the hotel does look over the bay which has a great view. The pool area is wonderful with a great pool side bar. The price for breakfast is very steep but dinner is about par for a more upscale place to eat. The rooms were very good size and included a fridge and microwave (all rooms are suites). Bedroom was way above average but the bathroom was small. Staff and location were great. Will stay here again.

Lovely rooms (with hugely comfy beds) with views overlooking the sea - fab! We used to watch the sunset with a bottle of wine watching the dolphins playing. Kids loved the pool, which was lovely and warm. The staff cannot do enough for you - so friendly too! Loved the food, especially the breakfasts - dinner here is NOT cheap - but so what if your on your hols! If you book via Virgin you get vouchers for free kids breakfasts, so it works out around $30 per day which, as we found we were so full we skipped lunch. If you do order lunch at the beach bar, big tip; SHARE! They serve enormous portions! There are a couple of resturants nearby which are worth trying, in particuar the Colombian one right next door. But for the best night out get the little trolley bus from reception (every 1/2 hr or so -altough if you sweet talk the staff they may take you in the hotel car) - over to the main beach (take a walk on the pier first which is v. lively at night) and then go to crabby bills - excellent snow crab, so sweet!! Would love to go again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

  • Liked — the balcony and view
  • Disliked — bit busy at the weekends - but you can still get a lounger!

I staid here a while ago with wife and son. It was not on the beach, the staff was "hicky" and we got robbed. I think someone had access to one of the card keys and robbed us while we slept in our room. Extremeley seedy! I spent my trip arguing with the idiot manager who refused to take any responsibility for the incident!! Stay elsewhere furth south.

The hotel is great if you have children. Many amenities including pool with toys and floats, play ground area, beach toys provided, and activities. However, our room (#902) smelled old and musty. The couch and chair in the "suite" were very uncomfortable and due to the odor, I couldn't relax at all INSIDE the room. The comforter on the bed constantly slid off the bed as well! (I had a king, with my 3 y.o. daughter sleeping between me and my husband). I don't recommend breakfast. It's over priced and terrible. Go down the board walk from the pool and there is a great little breakfast cafe. The view was terrific and the staff were nice. Definately get the Filet Migone. It was so good we ate it two nights in a row. The baked potato was horrible but the hash brown potato was to die for.
For $215 a night, I would expect that any hotel, but especially a Marriot, would be sure to keep their rooms more updated and comfortable. Definately not worth it for the price.

My husband and me stayed at the Marriott for 1 week from September 28th to October 5th 2006 after a very hectic week in Orlando. This hotel was fantastic - we stayed on the 9th floor in room 919 and the view over the bay was breathtaking. We would awake in the morning to wonderful sunrises and the dolphins playing and fishing in the bay - we were also lucky enough to have a visit from 2 manatees. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the staff very helpful and friendly. The pool area and tiki bar are like paradise and the pina coladas are moreish!
The Jolly Trolley stops at the hotel and takes about 5 minutes to get to Clearwater beach and all the restaurants - we would recommend Jimmy's fish restaurant and Iguana bar - the sunsets are wonderful (as are the Pina Coladas!!) - we would definately recommend the Marriott Suites.

Top notch. I won't regurgitate everything postive that's already been said but would add a couple of points in regard to some of the negative comments, as these almost put us off going:

- Location in relation to beach. Not a problem unless you really really don't like to walk even a little bit. Beach just a 5 minute walk past the Sheraton across the road. I wouldn't even bother waiting for their shuttle - can't see any advantage in using it. The plus side of the location is that all rooms' balconies face the calmer water - easier too see the Manatees etc. that regularly patrol.

- Musty smell. Yes, there is the usual 'Florida smell' in the background as the rooms open up to the air both sides. From all my Florida trips the only way to avoid this is if you are in one of those sealed-up hotels where you have to walk from your room to the front door before you reach fresh air. Florida is humid, and there is nothing wrong with this hotel. Our room (and all the public spaces we saw) were ultra-clean, dry and mould-free.

- Nearby reastaurants. It's no secret that Mrriott charges a lot for their food and drinks. If this is a concern then this location is great as the small strip-mall directly adjacent has 3 great restaurants (we tried them all) along with an ice-cream/sandwich shop, a deli/convinience/liquor store, a great breakfast place AND a Dunkin Donuts. You really are covered for everything - all within 2 minute's walk from either hotel or beach. Most of them share the same waterfront boardwalk with the Marriott so you can dine outside and watch for dolphins!

We will definately go back.

  • Tips/Secrets — Fort De Soto beach an hour's drive to the south is amazing!!!
