I wish I could write two reviews one for the hotel (meh) and one for the staff (AMAZING!!). I have never met better staff in any hotel, anywhere. Each and every one of them was fantastic from the front desk to the maintenance staff - awesome.
The hotel, sadly, is not so awesome.
The rooms ('suites') are so small there isn't even room to hang towels in the bathroom. There was four of us (two adults, two kids) and we struggled to stay in one of these suites for five days. The decor is old and dated, and there is really only enough room in the bedroom for one suitcase. As far as I am concerned you should not have to step over your suitcases in a four star hotel.
I was having to call the front desk on a daily basis because our toilet kept blocking up - I was at the point that I was going to ask them to leave a plunger in the room to save time.
The pool was ok but very crowded and the poolside food way overpriced. They claim the beach is few minutes walk away (there is no direct access) but it is far more than that and you have to walk through another hotel to get there (Sheraton Sand Keys - should have stayed there) or take one of their shuttles which seemed to be few and far between.
All in all, I don't think I would stay here again unless it was just two people. Even then what they call a suite is far removed from what I would call a suite. I understand that all the rooms are going to be refurbished by the end of 2015 and I say, not a moment too soon. It seems they have taken a standard hotel room, stuck a tiny bathroom in the middle and a fold out sofa in the 'lounge' and call it a suite.
This pains me to say because the staff are so wonderful and helpful.
During our stay there was a fire alarm that only seemed to affect the second and third floors (our other party was on the fourth floor and received no alarm). This was at 3:00 a.m. and we discovered later that it was caused by workmen in the lobby. We got our two children up (they were terrified by the noise) to be told when we got in the lobby that it was a false alarm/ It then however took almost 30 minutes to turn the alarm off. No apologies, no compensation, no free breakfast - NOTHING.
I tried really hard to like this hotel, but I just can't.
