We had read previous reveiws. They had mentioned check is after 3pm. They are correct on that. We came to the hotel at around 1pm. So we drove down the coast as about as far as we could to St. Petersburg Beach.
Many beautiful condo's, homes, hotels along the way. There are also many beach access roads. We came back to the hotel around 5pm to check in. Room was very nice and our balcony faced the main roadway. No problem with the noise. You did have to keep the curtains completely closed at night because of the street lights.
The beach is very small. We opted to drive to the main beach near the pier and also drove down the coast a couple of days and enjoyed the beach at Siesta Key and also at one of the beach access areas after crossing the Sand Key bridge. You are also within walking distance of a nice beach area past Sand Key bridge, which is next to I believe a Hilton or Marriot hotel. Instead of renting beach chairs and umbrellas we went across the street and purchased two sand chairs and small umbrellas and then were able to use them at our leisure. We donated the chairs to the hotel when we left. I think they cost about $12 each.
We also ate at the Gondolier Restaurant across the street. Many people have referred to it as a pizza place. I thought they had many other Italian and Greek selections to chose from, such as calzones, gyros, pastas, sub sandwiches, etc,. Their prices were very resonable. There also is a I-hop just down the street at one of the hotels. The flavored coffees at the gas station down the block were also very good.
The staff at the hotel were very courteous and helpful. I would recommend this hotel. The staff also mentioned that many hotels are being purchased and turned into rental properties.

Beachfront hotel with it’s own beach access and pooldeck facing the water. Beach is small, white sand and nice!
6 stories high and all rooms equipped with a balcony. Cityview is cheaper than beachview. Cityview was affordable (118 plus), but a bit noisy from Gulfview Blvds traffic. Nice view though!
Lobby is spacious and hotellike, two counters for checkin. Part of the lobby belongs to the adjacent restaurant, there is indoor and outdoor dining and a beachbar outside.
Rooms are really spacious too, we had 2 double beds with colourful bedcovers, in yellow, green, blue and red. Combining with the yellow and green walls, floor and furniture. Great! We felt very comfortable and at home. We had a round table and 2 comfortable chairs, and a big TV with much more than 50 channels. Lamps and mirror are very decorative pieces of furniture.
Carpets though are a bit dated and not perfectly clean.
There is a small room with the coffeemaker, a board and a closet, including the iron and ironboard. You have a fridge and a microwave in room. Bathroom and toilet are in a separate room. Water flush is noisy. Bathrooms seem to be newly renovated and you find a nice sink in there, made from real stone, I wonder if it is granite or something similar. Very nice and good quality. There is the usual toiletries like soap, lotion and shampoo. Enough towels are provided (you receive a ticket for extra pool towels at check-in). Bathroom is very clean.
Walls to the adjacent rooms are ok, though bathroom noises from the neighbours can be heard loudly and due to the indoor corridors you will get some noise from people walking by. Though our room was close to the 2 elevators, which were maintained well, we did not hear any noise from them.
A glassfront (no wall)with terracedoor leads to your balcony, which makes the rooms very bright. On the balcony you find a table and 2 plastic chairs as well, the carpeted floor on the balcony is not so clean as well. They should put tiles on the balcony. Would be easier to keep clean.
An alarm clock, telephone and some information material about the hotel and surroundings is proviced in room.We could not find any free internet access.
Unfortunately there is no free breakfast included. But the in-house restaurant provides room-service if wanted.
Poolside is very nice, pool not very big. Lot’s of chairs, deckchairs, a playground for the kids, and sandy small beach to relax and take a short walk.

Across the street you find a fabulous Pizza restaurant and shops. There is a more expensive buffet restaurant down the streets (Shepard’s). Parking space at the hotel is limited, so leave the car and walk, so you don’t have to wait for a free space when returning. Trolley stop is a few steps away.
I can recommend this hotel, it is clean, spacious and rooms are really inviting. And it cost less than others would have (depending on the internet rates I was finding).

Before booking the hotel, i read some of the reviews and crossed my fingers, hoping that it'd be good. We arrived to the hotel at 1pm and they wouldn't let us check in because "the room is being clean". So we had to stay by the tiny pool and tiny beach for couple hours. The private beach was such a big disappoinment. That shouldn't be call a "beach", it's more like a tiny pond with saltwater. However, it's very clean, so i gotta give them credit for that. Pool area is clean as well, there's this man singing, he has a great voice. Loved that. However, we saw a snake in the bushes. That's kinda freaky. Elevators were extremly slow. No direct stairways to the lobby. We had to walk the north side to chill at the beach b/c it's a larger area, unlike the tiny private "beach" we have at the BW. Staff was somewhat friendly. Couple hotels down the street is the Shepherd, that's a great place to hang out. Great buffet restaurant! Fantastic view. They have live band on stage at night, you can party until dawn. Btw, do not eat at the "Thai Garden" across the street, bad service, horrible food, the place is dirty as well. Overall, if i go to clearwater again, i'd stay somewhere else like the Hilton or something.

I recently returned from Clearwater Beach, Florida. I stayed at the Best Western Sea Wake Resort. After reading some of the reviews before, I felt a little hesitant. When I arrived, the only thing I could find wrong was the very small beach. I also kept reading about the Slow elevator service, but I did not encounter at all. I was also told that I could use the beach and pool services at the HOliday Inn Sunspree next door, which had a much bigger pool and spa. You do have to pay for umbrellas and lounge chairs which is $18 a day. Very pricey. The beach area is not as nice as the the public Clearwater Beach area. But you have to pay $10 for parking if you want to go there. You can not walk if you bring all your beach gear.
All in all, the hotel was more than I expected. Service was good, Rooms very clean. Try and get the gulf view though, it is much nicer than the city view. And yes, the pizza place across the street is awesome. You also have Walgreens and beer and wine and Subway across the street.
I enjoyed my stay very much. Hope this helps the next person to go to this resort.

Quick and accurate review.... Room was ok, food nothing to brag about and over-priced (kitchen closes at 2pm!!)...very small pool/pool area. Beach and water not very clean..private but just not anywhere as pretty as the public beach area. Bar/food service very very slow. No where to store luggage before check in.

We stayed at the Sea Wake Resort April 27th- May 1st, 2005. The Sea Wake provided us with reasonably priced accommodations in Clearwater Beach. Unfortunately, our first night was spent in a boulevard view room even though we booked and paid for a gulfview room. The front desk did not really give us a reason for the mix up and they could not switch us that evening to a gulfview room as the hotel was booked. However, they did credit us the difference for staying in a lower priced room and the next day they switched us to a gulfview room for the remainder of our stay. The rooms were very clean and included a microwave and a small fridge (plenty of room for beverages and snacks). Don’t be fooled by this, having a microwave and fridge does not mean the room is any bigger or better than one without, both are located next to the television in an entertainment unit (this happens to house the only dresser drawers, meaning 2, as well). The hotel did provide free wireless internet access throughout, albeit a little slow, this was a pleasant surprise for us. Our best connection rates were 11Mbps on the 3rd floor. As the last reviewer mentioned the elevators were insanely slow, and again, one was out of service for part of our stay. I would not normally mention this except for the fact that the stairwells are only accessible on the first floor from the outside of the hotel, not from the lobby, and only open from the inside, hence you can only EXIT the building using the stairwell and must rely on the slower than slow elevator(s) to get to your room. The beachfront area is landscaped nicely but is small. Did I mention small? I know what you are thinking, I thought the same, I don’t mind a small beach, but when I say small I am talking about a beach that can hold about 15 people on a good day, plus it faces the waterway (this does however provide some entertainment – the “boat cops” sit by the shore and pull over speeding boaters passing through the channel – we found amusing to guess who would get stopped and how many boats would get stopped/hour). We had chosen the Sea Wake because of its beach front access, but I would not necessarily call this a beach, more of a river bank of sorts. We found the public access beach a few blocks north to be much, much better. Our next visit we plan on staying at a hotel across the blvd. from this beach (which is also close to the Pier), such as HoJo’s or the Red-Roof inn. All in all, the Sea Wake was a nice hotel, a good value, and VERY clean. If you are not looking for direct beach access or don't mind paying a $10 parking fee at the public access beach lots up the road than this is the hotel for YOU.
As for restaurants in the area, we found Frenchy’s to be excellent!!!! They have lots of seafood on the menu and even offer Caribbean black beans with rice, for us vegetarians. If you don’t like the hip-tropical-pub-look don’t go here. Also, if you do go, be aware the restaurant is open to the outside, you may need a sweatshirt on a chilly night.
My favorite restaurant in the area is Hellas. It is about 20 minutes north off of Alternate Rt. 19 in Tarpon Springs (well worth the drive). They offer wonderfully tradition Greek cuisine and large portion size; all at a minimal price (not one of us could finish our meal). I eat at Hellas whenever I am in the Tampa area (about 8 times now) and have never been disappointed (or hungry)!!
I hope this helps someone. I know this site and these reviews were very helpful for us.

I was concerned having read mixed reviews of the resort, but we found it to be wonderful. We had a second floor water front room and were able to view the pool, beach and water from our room. The room was a decent size with two queen size beds and the balcony was nice with two chairs and a table. The bathroom was a nice size. Everything looked updated and in great shape. The resort employees were friendly and helpful, even giving us directions to a great restaurant as we arrived before check-in time and our room was not ready. The beach area is small, but they were also experiencing an unusual high tide while we were there so hard to tell how much of the beach is usually present. One thing we were not aware was that they do not provide beach chairs (only towels) and we did not realize the chairs on the beach belonged to someone renting them (and he did not tell us this, only rudely informed us they were his chairs). Our suggestion would be to pick up a chair across the street at the drugstore and donate it to someone else when you leave (if you are unable to take it home with you) as it would be the less expensive option.

We only ate breakfast at the retaurant at the hotel, but the food was delicious and the waitress was very friendly and nice. They do not serve dinner and we did not order room service (which they provide) so we were not sure when room service ends, though apparently it does when the restaurant closes.

All in all, we had a great experience there and would recommend it to everyone. The trolley has a stop right at the entrance to the parking lot so it makes it very convenient for getting around as well.
