First I'd like to say, I don't think we were expecting too much when we rented a cottage at Pirate's Cove. We knew the cottages were old and were renovated. We liked the idea of the 50's- 60's motor-court. One of our favorite places to vacation is a real log cabin motor court (circa 1930) in NC. We really like character in the places where we stay.
When we entered our cottage, the smell of bleach was over-whelming. Clean is what we wanted so the smell wasn't necessarily a bad thing. We opened the windows so it could air out while we unpacked the car. Someone must have gutted a ton of fish and threw the decaying innerds into the trash, which was parked just outside our door. We decided to close everything back up and go to dinner. By the time we got back everything was fine.
The second day we started finding roaches. We didn't cook in the cottage so no food was left out, but we kept finding them as we moved items around on the counters and on the furniture even in the drawers.
I couldn't give the PC anything lower than average, because it DID look as if the owners were renovating, but we just can't tolerate roaches... everywhere.
