We arrived after trying hard to find the restaurant, which is part of a holiday complex and poorly signed. Once there we noticed all the tables were laid up ready but we were asked to wait whilst one which had just been vacated was cleared and relaid. This took ages as the receptionist doinf the job was busy chatting to other diners. The server told us the specials but omitted to tell us the prices, not very helpful. When the food arrived it was good, we didnt want a desert and ordered coffee. We were repeatedly told that our coffee was brewing but surely it doesn't take 20 minutes to brew two coffees? Overall we felt that the food was overpriced and the service was not at all what we would expect from a place which is clearly trying to move itself upmarket. If you are eating in Cedar Key there are better value places than The Island Room.

First, be aware that this restaurant is in the Cedar Cove Motel, the lower floor in the back. We were looking for the restaurant and came in the "back" door, the door facing the bay. A man came up to us and told us, with a severe "attitude" to go to the front desk and that he would seat us. Not a great beginning but we did as we were told. He asked if we had a reservation and seemed quite put out that we did not, even though the restaurant was almost empty and was never more than a fourth full the entire evening. He seated us about as far away from the view as possible, but we did have views of the motel pool with kids playing. So not exactly the best ambiance. Our waitress arrived very quickly and was pleasant. The man that initially greeted and seated us also seemed to be the bar tender. The wine list is quite nice with some great selections and is reasonably priced. We placed our wine order with him. The only wine complaint is that it was too warm, certainly not "cellar temperature." Two of us had salads and an entree and one had appetizer, salad, and entree. The waitress brought the two salads and the appetizer together. That was good. We all finished our respective course then waited and waited. Finally the waitress came over with the final salad and told us that our main courses would be right up. She mumbled something about the bartender failing to bring over the salad earlier. The main dishes were soon delivered. The pasta dishes were quite nice and it obvious that the pasta was home made and fresh. Nice. The other dishes were also good. We did have to work very hard to get any water during the meal. So, good food, but the service was poor and we did not need the poor attitude of the bartender. We probably would not eat here again.

The Island Room is the restaurant associated with Cedar Cover beach and Yacht Club. It has very high quality food and a lovely atmosphere.

While in Cedar Key, my family and I went to the Island Room for Sunday Brunch. We had 11 in our party and had a great variety of dishes. Both the food and service was fantastic!!!

It took at least an hour for food. Very very understaffed and seemed like they must have only had one cook on that night. We got there about 6:30 and dining room was not full, maybe half tables filled. Had it not been pouring rain, we probably would have left (took almost 15mins for water service and drink order placed). There seemed to be only 2 waitstaff and one woman wheeling the cart of food out to tables. Oysters rockfeller was terrible. Clam meals were excellent. Pork medallion (special that evening) was good, Wine selection is good. The interior is nice and the people were nice, but the food is not anything that exciting. We will probably try somewhere else for a nice meal next time in town.
