“REALLY old Florida”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Calling this a Beach & Yacht Club is being inventive at best and dishonest at worst.
The yacht moorings have fallen into disrepair and into the water and probably haven't seen a sailing vessel since pirates stalked the local waters. It's certainly why you don't see any mention of them in the hotel amenities.
The tiny strip of beach was covered in seawood, rubbish and assorted detritus.
And there are few clubs that I know of where there is no room service, pool service or even an open front desk after 6pm.
In short the Cedar Cove Beach & Yacht Club is faded and scruffy, rather like my room which came with a sticky carpet, an A/C unit with only one setting ( Hurricane ) and the previous tenants half-eaten meal in the refrigerator. To watch TV from the bed I had to physically move it acroos the entire room to the kitchen although an extra long cable had been provided. How difficult would it be for this hotel to move a TV aerial socket from one side of the room to another rather than expect guests to shift a TV themselves ?
A tiny pool and a dour restaurant did little to dispel the gloom.
I'm all for Old Florida trying to sell the concept of a bygone time but for the money this place is charging you should at least get a few 21st Century necessities.
The only positive thing to report is what they couldn't mess up - the majestic view out to sea.
Avoid if you can.

I have stayed at six different places on the island.. We loved this location so much that we decided to try to buy one. It was absolutely delightful to wake up directly on the waterfront. We sat on the deck and watched dolphins swim right next to the hotel.

The rooms could use some updating but otherwise great place to stay right on the water. The restaurant at this hotel is phenomenal. Excellent place to eat. The hotel staff is extremely friendly. I would stay here again.

We had stayed her in the past and although the front desk service was less than friendly we we overlooked it. Last weekend we arrived early so that we could have a leisurely lunch and walk around a bit.Afterward I called to see if we could possibly get in our room a bit early so we could unpack & relax a bit. The lady gave me a short "No. 4 PM." . We drove around the island and past the motel to see where our room was located. The maid was just leaving the room after cleaning it. We wasted more time and then noticed another coupe leaving the office with a key so my husband decided to check. He was told the room was not clean and explained that he saw the maid leaving the room. The stubborn woman told him he still couldn't get in the room. We are older people and were tired and didn't appreciate ... or deserve..this treatment. We cancelled and went to Park Place where the desk clerk was super friendly.

The amenities were wonderful and the room was clean with everything we could want for a night away. We enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant and can't wait to go back again for more wonderful seafood and wine.

Room Tip: We loved the one bedroom corner with a loft bedroom.

We stayed at this hotel for the very first time this weekend. We rented a nice room facing the the canal and nice view of the Gulf weather was ok the rain held off until on the way today. The hotel clean a bit run down nithing like on the facebook page or googled website. The front desk Lady her name was Alice a sweetheart. It has a spa area but no one under 18 is allowed in that left our 14 year son and his 11 year friend out so we never visited it. The maid service wasn't the greatest but over all it was ok.

Room Tip: Investigate the rooms a little better.

We arrived in the late afternoon and were delighted that our son had asked for an upgrade, since our apartment had a panoramic view of the gulf, harbour and beach. It had a double bed on the first floor, with kitchen and jacuzzi bathroom, with a large walk-in shower, a lounge and kitchen on the second floor and a loft bedroom with a spiral stair and also a double bed. Everything was clean and we had plenty of equipment if we had wanted to cook main meals - which we did not! We had our first lunch in the restaurant and it was very good, also met the friendly waitress who served us most of the week. Lots of sea food, not surprisingly, since Cedar Key is a clam and oyster farming area. A quiet village with small shops and a few restaurants open at that time of year, also two very interesting museums and an information centre. The clam chowders we ate were excellent. A perfect 'get away from it all' place - no large chain stores or eateries for miles. A great week's holiday, although the weather was misty a lot of the time and there was a major thunderstorm.
