I just returned from a weekend at Cedar Key and three nights at the Dockside. I was meeting with a small group of military friends who had not been together in over 30 years . I chose the Dockside because of the preceding reviews. The positive ones seemed sincere and the negative appeared to have been written by whiners who would not be happy anywhere. That theory proved to be basically true. If you are in need of constant attention to your many needs from hotel staff, require pristine rooms in quiet surroundings, need convienient parking and must have all the normal hotel amenities.... there is a Holiday Inn Express in Chiefland - go there. If you can trade off some of the nicities for a hotel with a great location and a lot of charm, try the Dockside.
We occupied 6 of the rooms with our group and the back deck most of the time. I apologize to any who may have been annoyed by the chatter as we caught up on 30 years of each others lives and told lies about the way it used to be. Jessie and Annie saw to all of our requirements. No, the office did not have 24 hour service, maybe not even regular service, but then neither did any of the bars or restaurants keep regular hours. In the Bahamas it is termed "Island Time", get used to it, or go elsewhere. The rooms are clean and adequet, stained carpets and all. Linens and towels are available - help yourself. Rooms are quiet, if you close the windows, and the air conditioners work great. I was in room 2, a corner room with a great view. It also overlooks Dock Street and Coconuts and the Rusty Rim. If you choose to sleep with the windows open and enjoy the sea breeze at night be advised that there is a very short period of time between the late night revelers and the early morning risers.
Again thanks to Jesse and Annie for the accomadations, service and advice. We have no complaints but perhaps after a combined total of over 50 years of service in the Marine Corps our expectations are not as high as others. Our next planned reunion will, hopefully, exceed the capabilities of the Dockside but Cedar Key and the Dockside are definitely on my list of places to return to.
