We stopped for dinner just before the sunset and found the dining room nearly empty. The young waitress did her best to suggest specials and we settled on stuffed shrimp and fish of the day. We were offered our choice of seating and preferred to be at a window near the street. The dinner was served in a timely manner, it was hot and the wine we had ordered earlier was fine. Since it was Cedar Key we were not expecting a gourmet meal, but the chef did a good job and we had a leisurely dinner...no since rushing us when there are only seven people dining. The waitress came back twice to make sure we were satisfied and we chatted with her about the Island and a little about her. It turned out to be a very nice evening. Leaving the hotel you pass through a living room with leather chairs that look quite inviting. They have done a good job. We left and took pictures of the sunset at the end of town. A very nice, slow paced, evening.

Simple living and great location. Bar in the hotel or walking distance if you want. Excellent food as always. So nice to enjoy some coffee in the lobby with a book. Will be back again and again and again.

The hotel offers historic ambience but don't expect luxury. Our room had a claw foot bath in the bed room but it was on a raised area with broken tiles - also the toilet was in a separate very small room. The basin was old- it worked but not appealing to look at. If you are looking for a change from chain motels the Island Hotel is a good choice. Conveniently situated with no parking worries. Good waitress service breakfasts - the bar food was very tasty. Staff very friendly.

Very happy with our stay. Very laid back, everything you need in one location. Good food and drinks. It was a very relaxing stay in a very nostalgic setting. The Hotel was quiet and very hospitable. Breakfast was very good, and included with the room. We will be back!

Room Tip: Go online, view all the rooms and pick one that looks good to you. Two rooms have bathrooms across the hall, but they are private for the matching room.

We have been to the Island room for dinner many times for over 20 years. Last night we mad our reservation and arrived with our service dog who has been there with us several times previously. This time the female owner began to interrogate us. In an arrogant and condescending way she asked for proof which we provided. I became upset as she was in violation of Florida Law. After spending time examining every certification even my doctor's rx for him. I was tense and she felt that. Then she said that if we had an "attitude" she could refuse to seat us! Her attitude was my worse experience in over 20 years celebration our anniversary there.
We left which may have surprised her. We will never return unless we receive an apology from her.
We had dinner that night and the next night at the Island Room and there were no questions asked plus the owner and waitress were extraordinary. Our dinner was suburb there too.
Sad to lose our tradition but we won't tolerate her arrogance ever again.

Room Tip: Never stay here unless you are a person who can endure arrogance and condescension!
