“Trails fun to explore”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

We like to hike and if you have time take some of the trails in to the refuge. Camera with long lens may get you some good bird images.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

The man at the gate was just a charming older man with a wealth of knowledge about the area. The park was peaceful, not over crowded, a great place to get out and stretch your legs and take in the beauty of the area.

“Excellent walks”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

We stopped by for a short visit. Did some awesome hikes, We went February so there were NO bothersome bugs. Love the unspoiled nature of the place and would love to come back and kayak when the tides are right. In Cedar key "mud flats", kayak within 1 hour of high tide. There are tide tables. Or better yet, get with Tom of Cedar Key Kayaks, and he will fix you up!. A peaceful place, with lots of wildlife. The visitor center in Cedar Key, was friendly and furnished us with maps and a one page handout on the trails. Glad we went.

“Shell Mound Was Impressive”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

A mound of shells 28' high! Built up over 6,000 years.

It is humbling to walk on massive piles of ancient shells and to contemplate civilizations that thrived on the Gulf eons ago.
