“Wonderful stay at The Old Carrabelle”
Reviewed June 12, 2012

I came to Skip and Kathy's place after a 2 week work trip and wanted to relax and do a little fishing. Skip and Kathy were gracious and friendly. The hotel was charming and comfortable. I wish the fishing trip was better but my hotel stay for the weekend was supurb. Quiet, restful, and a great location near the waterfront and restaurants, I recommend this place.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Regatta room, queen bed with bath/shower. Nautical theme, very quiet. I slept grea...

We have stayed many times with Skip and Kathy, and each time the experience is uniquely wonderful. True Southern hospitality, wonderful rooms and property, plus great hosts! Carrabelle and its unique personality and flavor of a fishing town is perfectly complimented by this wonderful hotel. You won't be disappointed, and we look forward to going back soon!

We stayed at the Old Carrabelle Hotel for two nights in the Captains Quarters. Loved the room, very clean and comfortable. We met Skip upon arrival and he recommended some great places to eat while here. Everywhere we went, from the B&B, to the beach, to the restaurants- we encountered friendly, laid back people. Exactly what we were looking for! What a great place to relax and enjoy life! We will definitely be back!

I booked a reservation at the Old Carrabelle Hotel two months prior to our family's planned trip. A confirmation email arrived with my requested dates and credit card information listed at the top. It also had the directions to the facility and some lovely pictures. I assumed everything was set until I received a follow-up email with a change in the date of my arrival.

Obviously, there was some confusion on the part of the managers, since they changed the dates of my reservation! They they attempted to pawn it off as MY mistake stating that I had not read the original email with the date change. I have never had a hotel change the dates of a reservation request when those dates were not available via a confirmation e-mail. They have merely stated that the facility was not available. I never even thought to look at the bottom of the e-mail and see if the dates "confirmed" were the dates I had requested!

I would never recommend this facility to any family planning a vacation. Not only was it shoddy business practice to "confirm" dates that were not requested, but it was completely unprofessional to blame the customer for what was an obvious lack of organization on the part of the business. The only positive thing I can say, is that they did refund my deposit. Now I have two weeks to attempt to find another place for our family vacation.

This is a cut/paste from the confirmation:

You are confirmed in Winchester Cottage for 4 nights, Mon-Thur June 25-28***
The triple asterisks on this led to the triple asterisks on the guest request, which were 2 days later, check-in and check-out.

We have thought this over for months, and have started any altered confirmation with a bold note, so that there are no misunderstandings. It is working, as there has been no further occurence.

We rented the Winchester cottage. The owners neglected to tell us the house is situated ona main thru street with an increcidible amount of street traffic and noise. Carabelle beach is TINY spit of filthy sand.

This review is certainly the exception, as any reader will easily see.

How much noise and traffic could this little town of 900 generate? It was probably early risers on their way to fishing or our beach, right down the coast from St. George Island, recently named the 4th best beach in the USA. Carrabelle Beach has sugar-white sand, and there is a bottle of it in the Monkey Bar, if you'd like to check it out.

We really think it's McDonald's withdrawals going on here. And what we Also Don't Have: traffic lights, traffic jams, malls, Wal-Marts, high-rise buildings, bungie jumps and putt-putt golfs. What else is there? A million acres of state and national forest, and the Gulf of Mexico.

We stayed at the Old Carrabelle Hotel for just one night on our way back to Orlando from Pensacola. We arrived fairly late in the afternoon and checked ourselves in. The room (Hemmingway) was compact but nice, with a large bathroom. We didn't have much time at the B&B, but there is a great porch, which would've been nice to sit and read on if we'd had more time. We did meet Kathy, who was very friendly and recommended the Fisherman's Wife restaurant for dinner, which was very nice. We used our breakfast voucher in the little diner near to the hotel and although the choice of food was limited we loved the retro feel and really enjoyed our breakfast. We enjoyed our trip along the old Florida coast and thought Carrabelle was a quaint little town. Staying at the Old Carrabelle Hotel really enhanced the experience and we thought it was great value for money. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to those seeking a relaxing and chilled out experience.

Always glad to see the number of guests who "get" what we're doing here with "Key West style"!
