“Great but not that great”
Reviewed May 13, 2008

PROS:
* AWESOME waterpark!!! (but slide & lazy river for kids 42 inches and taller - couldn't even go with an adult - was a bummer for my kids that are smaller than 42 ")
* LOTS of kids activities/entertainment - indoor/outdoor playground, organized activities/crafts, movie theater, arcade room, waterpark, miniature golf
* Everything you need is here - don't need to leave the resort for anything!
* Staff is nice (but not really helpful or friendly - just nice)
* Nice Pool Bar
* Clean resort, clean room

CONS:
* VERY VERY uncomfortable beds and pillows!!!!
* Studio rooms have NO windows!!!! (unless you have a room at the end) - no balconies either - no natural light.
* Restaurant food on site was expensive and TERRIBLE - would eat outside the resort if you can - lots of nearby restaurants.
* Low Class guests - not what I expected for prices of rooms

Soooo.....fun fun fun for kids and would go again but not the greatest resort I've been to.

  • Liked — The huge amount of amenities and kids activities.
  • Disliked — Uncomfortable beds/pillows

We stayed there b/c of all the amenities they have for children, but be prepared for your worst night sleeps ever. After three nights of sleeping on cheap mattresses and hard rock pillows I am still suffering from neck and back pain. I have stayed at Ritz Carlton paid less and slept very well and felt rested, not the tossing and turning that we did at this place. The rugs felt very dirty and they do not provide housekeeping. So on top of being well overpriced you have to do everything yourself. Exchange your own linens and towels. Never will stay here again.

  • Liked — Waterpark for children
  • Disliked — All the amenities close at 5pm even in the summer and horrible sleeping quarters.

Dear Jfamily81,

Thank you for your comments. We are proud of our water park. We have our carpets professionally cleaned twice a year and our staff spot cleans as necessary. Your carpet should not have been dirty therefore we apologize. Typically, in timeshare resorts, weekly tidy service is offered for seven day stays. Daily maid service is available upon request for a nominal fee. We hope you reconsider and visit us again.

Sincerely,

Launa Young

We spent a week at the resort with our two children ages 20 months and 3 1/2. It was OK - what we had expected except for the clientele and state of the accommodation. The waterpark and indoor playground were great spots for the kids and we never had any difficulty finding a spot to sit. It is EXTREMELY busy on the weekends as locals enjoy their free "splash days" with the purchase of their timeshare - so there are many families using the waterpark and other facilities that aren't actually staying at the resort - that was a little disturbing for us. The beach area is fine but the umbrella/chair rentals are really overpriced as mentioned before. Again, the beach is packed on the weekend but was quiet during the week. We had to pay by cash or credit at the bar and restaurant - wouldn't charge to our guestroom. That was a first for us and a little annoying - meant we always need to have cash on us while in the pool area. The condos are OK - smell kind of strange and definitely a little tired (we were in the oceanfront building). We were on the 3rd floor - not the best view but it was OK. The towel exchange never bothered us. Our room was cleaned on our 6th day? Now that was strange! So we had already purchased extra laundry and dish detergent and then it was replaced on the 6th day - should receive a restocking earlier than that. The room was a little tired and very inexpensively furnished. The TV's were very old and small. The rooms are not finished to a high standard. The indoor playground lacks supervision so things get a little crazy after supper - best to take smaller children there during the day when it's quiet. Lots of big kids running around and knocking the wee ones over. We didn't receive any calls about the timeshare offer - strange that it's pretty much the #1 complaint yet we didn't even get a call! I don't think we would go back. The area around the resort is a little questionable and lacks new/modern stores, restaurants and amenities. However, it was a great spot for us to stay prior to our Disney cruise - easy to get to the port from here.

  • Liked — Large condo with open plan layout and large terrace/balcony
  • Disliked — Outdated and cheap finishings

From the moment we checked in we could tell this resort was going to be a nice experience for all. Friendly people and staff were the top priority at this resort. Our first week was an Oceanside unit. We were able to watch the space launch from our large balcony. Beautiful view and a very nice,well equipped and furnished unit. Very clean and well maintained in all areas. Our second week was an Oceanfront unit. You could not ask for much better. Third floor,direct oceanfront view and a large double balcony. WOW--real nice. Once again---clean and well maintained was the order of the day. This was a large unit that was well designed to accommodate our family--all eight of us. Plenty of room. The pool area was a big plus. Everyone could enjoy, The layout was hugh with lots of lounge chairs and plenty of staff to maintain such a large enjoyable feature. The on site restaurant was top of the chart--excellent food and very reasonable in price. Our waiter-Dennis-was top of the line. Being in the Oceanfront building we could take the shuttle or take the short walk to the pool or restaurant. The shuttle would come buy about every seven min. "most of the time"I will be honest--when one older man was driving it took forever for the shuttle to come buy--we ended up walking rather than sit or stand for up to 10-15 min. or longer. We could walk in less than 4-5 min. What was the problem ,was not the resort ,but the one driver. He would sit and read his paper or talk to other staff. I'm sure management will solve the problem in the future. I just hope they don't wait to long,some older people could have a problem. Soooo-- with that said--Overall the resort is a great choice for any family that wants a really nice vacation. You will not be sorry. I might add that I read reviews that were negative, before we booked at this resort. You can be sure those reviews are from people you could never please. You and your party will have an excellent time at a 1st class resort. WE will be back in the future.

Although a nice hotel to stay at be aware of the time share hard sell. We stayed in a one bedroom unit that sleeps 6 (walls are thin and mattresses very firm) and signed on to hear the sales pitch on Saturday morning. After 3 hours of show and tell sales tactics we decided we would buy a week for around 13k. Afterwhich, they give you a large binder, coffee cups, tote bags, champagne with plastic stem ware, and sandwiches. Once we got home and did some research we discovered it was not a good deal based on a complaint website exclusively for RCI. We then decided to cancel the deal. (Florida law you have 10 days). With the acknowledgement from Ron Jon's, (RCI) of the reciept of the cancellation they request that all the stuff they gave us to be sent back or be charged $50.00. Shipping the stuff back would cost about $50.00 at todays postal rates. We complained to the corporate office and they were no help but they concurred that it would be silly to send all that stuff back but the resort demanded it. Buyer beware.

Ron Jon's was a great experience all around for clean rooms, pool and resort area in general. This is a resort and not a hotel so you have to remember that if you want your towels or linen changed, you have to take the dirty ones to the lines exchange and they don't come in and make your bed and clean your room/bathroom everyday but that's because they're a resort. They do a middle of the week cleaning though so just remember that's probably more than you'd do at home! The beds are not pillow top but they told us they were replacing them all for next year with pillow top. The pillows were the usual flat hotel pillows but I'm going to recommend that they change those to the down alternative ones. We stayed in a studio which had a King bed, kitchenette (microwave, bar fridge with small freezer) and a full bathroom with a whirlpool tub. The water park is awesome for all ages!! There's a large pool, water park for the little ones, a hot tub for 38 people, a water slide and a lazy river. Part of the park closes at 5:00 PM but then that makes it nice for the adults as the kids are then off doing something else. Lots of activities for all ages and a movie theater. Some activities are a couple of dollars but well worth it. If you are in the building near the pools/water park then you are a few min. walk to the beach but there's a trolley every 15 min. if you don't want to walk. The beach is a great expanse of Cocoa Beach and there's a public beach right down from the Ron Jon beach if you want life guards. The resort is at the end of the road that the cruise ship terminals are on so don't get discouraged when you drive by the port. The resort is the only one that we know of not on the main drag ( but still on Cocoa Beach) so you wont get the typical noise of that area of town so you won't be hearing a siren every five min. or loud traffic. Just be careful not to book during Spring break but that can be said of any place in Florida, although, we had some yahooers one day but then we never heard them again after that( I wonder where they hid them?!!). You may be asked to go to a time share presentation but all you have to do is say,"no" and go on with your holiday. We actually own time share and have no regrets as do many of our friends. We will be going back to the Ron Jon next year for sure.

  • Liked — Quiet end of town and right on beach.
  • Disliked — Uncomfortable bed and pillows, cheap sheets.

A tripadvisor member (at resort from feb.23 to march 1) We had a 1 bedroom facing the port, I enjoyed the ships comming in and out. The room was excellent everything was new and updated,no problems with the room at all.We tried the resturant 1 night and the food was great and the price was avg. for a resort. The pool area was nice and the water was warm and not crowded at all. The ocean was a 7 min walk but the shuttle was every 10 min if you didn`t want to walk. You do need a car if you want to explore the area,but the resort had everything you could need ,unless you need groceries.Everybody was helpful and friendly and the rules were not as bad as some other reviews have said.
