Owner description: Manatee Sanctuary Park boasts over 10 acres of riverfront beauty. Manatee Sanctuary Park is home to the annual Cape Canaveral Founder's Day Festival every March & Space Coast Dragon Boat Festival every April! This park is named Manatee Sanctuary because it borders a section of the Banana River that serves as a protected Manatee habitat. While we cannot guarantee that you will see a manatee during your visit, these beautiful creatures have been known to come and feed off the sea grass along the boardwalk. Manatees enjoy warm waters and typically move to inland springs during the winter months. They are considered an endangered species and fall under highly protective legislation. To learn more about these amazing animals, including where to see them year round, please visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website.

“Great view”

This is a very nice little park. It is a great place for a picnic and to watch the cruise ships come and go from port.

“Differing information”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

There is a traveler article about this location that provides instructions on going south beyond the wooden boardwalk, across a drainage ditch to a cove where the elusive manatee evidently hang out. What we found was two ponds with sea grass that could benefit from a few manatee visits and that entire area was surrounded by chain link fence. I'm not sure if we somehow missed something or if the fence has been added to deter such close access. The park is all the others reviews noted, beautiful, well kept with kite surfers practicing in the large clearing to the right of the parking lot. Sad. (But we did see one at the Canaveral locks when it opened to let a boat through). Good luck.

“Misleading name, lovely park”
Reviewed December 17, 2013

Being a tourist, the name was a draw for me. The thought of seeing a manatee was so appealing. Until I came to this site and read another review, I didn't realize there was a season where viewing them would be best. There was no information in the park about manatees that my family and I could find that might help explain that, or help visitors figure out what they might be looking for. The greenery along the river does block any possible view there might be, however nice the viewing platforms are.

As a fitness park, it is lovely and an ideal physical activity park for kids of all ages. And it was a nice destination for a walk from one of the area hotels before a cruise.

“Watch the weather”
Reviewed December 11, 2013

Manatees are mostly here only when it's cold temperatures, folks. When it's warm, they're out munching on aquatic plants and no where near here. Pretty park, though. Stop at Subway on A1A and bring a lunch and watch.

“Nice Park...no manatees around”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

Nice little neighborhood park...but the water view is partially obstructed with brush/trees making it difficult to spot manateees. Nice spot for picnic lunch.
