“Good B&B, but not suitable for families staying over night.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2014

Basically a good pub that offers very good food & good accommodation, but on my visit I got the impression that most of the regular guests were oil rig workers who fly in & out of Humberside Airport. Nothing wrong with that apart from their loud & bad language which everybody, regardless of age or gender is subjected to in the restaurant area in the evenings & again in the mornings, after which they seem to depart for the airport. My evening meal of sirloin steak & all the trimmings was cooked to perfection. My full English breakfast the next morning was cooked to order & that was also excellent. Lunch time is a totally different prospect as all the 'riggers' are out in the middle of the North Sea, so it is safe to take the family for lunch there. This seemed to be the case at lunchtime when I returned from my journey to Cleethropes & enjoyed a pleasant meal, in a pleasant atmosphere, along with many other other diners who were present at the time. My room for the night was clean, comfortable & quiet, apart from the pillows on the beds which were all too hard. There was a bedside lamp between the twin beds, but no wall socket anywhere nearby to plug it into, so I had to turn the main lighting off via the switch by the door & find my way back across the room using the light from my mobile phone. The en-suite bathroom was modern & clean apart from inside the shower cubicle, there appeared to a build up of soap residue on the base of the shower hose & on the controls it was starting to turn into a black mildew like substance. The price for all this was very reasonable, but it was a pity about the 'Glasgow Nights' atmosphere supplied by the oil rig workers. Having said that, they (the riggers), are probably the main source of bookings for the accommodation offered here, so the owners of the Whistle & Flute are probably happy with the current situation.

Visited the whistle and flute for an afternoon bite, the food was above average and the waitresses were friendly and professional and really made you feel at home. I had the pate,as a starter which was home made, you could tell the difference from many places that buy in product. There was more than enough to fill a health appetite . Well worth a visit for anyone

Went for a meal with friends last night 3 of us in total and our meals were all amazing 2 had chicken Stilton which came with veg and potatoes and I had Texan chicken which was totally amazing. The waitresses were friendly and professional and really made you feel at home. Will definitely be back and our bill for three main courses and 6 drinks was under £45 great value
