“Amazing find!”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

Make sure you take a change of clothes. Coffee and home baking at the cafe afterwards felt well deserved.

“Amazing”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

Brilliant experience! Not for the too-faint hearted - expect no footpath, no handrails, no lights except your own torch! Having said that, i did this 4 months after foot surgery and I am 55. Fabulous walk through limestone formation caves and wading through a crystal-clear cave stream between stalagmites, stalactites and glow worms! Small groups only so no coach-loads. Very intimate and a unique experience! Lovely cafe/restaurant with homemade pizza and other menu. Was so relaxing to have a cup of coffee, chill out and discuss the experience afterwards! You will get wet and muddy, but there are changing rooms provided if you need them!
I was very apprehensive, but it was one of my most memorable NZ experiences!

“Fantastic Well Kept Secret”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

We had been meaning to visit Nikau Caves for a few years and had taken a trip out that way a few times and had coffee and lunch at their restaurant which has fabulous views. When some friends came to stay we decided to book as we had been to Waitomo Caves before and they were quite expensive and the usual cave tours. This was fantastic and a real bargain at $35 each. The cave has been left in pretty much it's discovered state so to be able to get so close to the rock formations was amazing. Be prepared to get your feet wet but have an unhurried tour with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide. There is a small "squeeze" through a short tunnel which made me a little nervous but I'm so glad I carried on as the whole tour was so fantastic - Just go!!!!

“Nikau cave cafe”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

I arranged a family lunch in this cafe , the food was delicious and the price very reasonable . We ate inside looking out at the hills , fresh flowers on the table , good unintrusive service , then had coffee and dessert outside on the terrace . The owners are friendly and welcoming. I really recommend this place , the drive is well worth it.
