The Bantam Chef is tucked into an area at the corner of US 1 and State Rt 100 in the center of Bunnell. Parking is plentiful either on site or nearby. The "restaurant" is a building with two windows (one for ordering and one for pick-up), with a practically illegible menu board from the 1970s, picnic tables for diners, paper and plastic. Make no mistake, one orders "The Fish Sandwich" here...yes there are other items, but the fish is the dish!

The writer upon hearing his number, picked up the bag and lifted what he thought were two fish sandwiches, but was really just one of the two....yes, it is that big. The sandwich was loaded with what appeared to be 12-14 ounces of fried fish along with the loaded tartar, pickles, tomatoes and lettuce. The sandwich defies being eaten in a traditional manner....there is just too much fish to contain. The taste of the pollock is fresh and was perfectly cooked. After much struggle the diners finished their sandwiches to their own amazement, but had no room for anything else. The cost....$7.40 per sandwich....incredible.

One goes here for "The Fish Sandwich" in this completely unpretentious atmosphere. The excellent rating is given because the Bantam Chef is true to its claim and for what it is....a place to get the best fish sandwich.

Great old-style burgers and fried food. 'Rustic' - order at the window, get a number, wait for it to be called and then eat at the outside picnic tables. Not sure how often my heart can take it, but once in a while it's certainly a treat. Now open on Sundays.

Coming from someone who does not eat fish very often, I was taken to this place by two of my friends.....We SPLIT the fish sandwich three ways and it was more than plenty for all of us including some fries. Thought maybe it was a fluke being bike week and all so I went back, this time for dinner for the family....Not heeding my previous experience, I ordered each of us a fish sandwich....WOW, so big that most people would not be able to finish. I was able to count the pieces of fish in one sandwich....a whopping 12..Now on for the best part, I say again I am not a fish lover, either it tastes real fishy, or it has a thick batter, or it is greasy......NONE of these apply to this fish sandwich. Fresh fish, thin coating and fried just right. The people who run this place are extremely friendly. Don't blink while your looking for this place or you will miss it. I gave Bantam Chef a "$" for low price, even though the price of the fish sandwich was $7.50. Excellent value for what you get.

With the largest fish sandwich in the county at that price range you can't beat it! Don't let the location, the surrounding neighborhood stop you from eating here! If you like good old greasy burgers with a lot of flavor, large portions and always great service this is the place!!!! As small as it is this place serves value with a smile. Be prepared to eat outdoors under the cover of the restaurant at a picnic bench on grounds. This is a favorite of construction workers, contractors, police, and have seen a few attorneys eating here also. This place serves all with a smile so come as you are!!!!!!
