The state forest provides many different opportunities to explore the natural features of inland Florida. My wife and I headed for the McKethan Lake Recreational Area, where we spent a most enjoyable day. Entrance was $4 per car, paid by honesty box. On the day we visited, there were no more than a handful of other visitors. The vistas across the lake were serene, and there were plenty of tables provided for picnics. The rest rooms were spotlessly clean. My wife and I took the 2 mile nature trail, a level saunter through the woodlands. Free leaflets are provided to interpret the various stations. Later we visited the nearby visitors' centre. The staff there spoke about the forest with great enthusiasm. There were plenty of leaflets and maps on offer as well. If you are in the area and like to experience the native features of the state, this is definitely worth a visit.
