We chose this lovely inn from previous reviews on here when looking for somewhere to stay for my birthday trip away and we weren't disappointed. There's still some work being done on a few of the rooms but it didn't detract from our stay in the slightest. We received a very warm welcome into a cosy bar with a roaring fire which was much appreciated after a day in the wind and rain!
Our room was beautifully decorated, spacious and spotlessly clean. It could've done with being slightly warmer but it wasn't the end of our world!
After settling in, we chose to return to the bar to sample one of the 3 real ales and read the newspaper by the fire - perfect.
I had called a few days prior to our visit to reserve a table for dinner and was told that there would be a table available for us all evening - whenever we wished to eat. We ate at about 7.30pm and the bar was fairly full - still very welcoming and cosy. The menu had a great selection and it was hard to choose but I'd heard that the lamb hotpot was hard to beat and I wasn't disappointed! It was delicious! My husband said he wants to go back just to have that next time! The staff, the atmosphere and the food were second to none - we can't wait to come back :)

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 1 - gorgeous bathroom with roll top bath.

On a cold, wet February evening the yummy food& great beer & wine brightened our spirits. We have never been disappointed here & last night all met our expectations & beyond. Starters superb- & main courses, particularly sea bass & steak & ale pie surpassed. Warm, welcoming staff completed a great night.

I stayed here on business and found everything was beyond my expectations

-Great location
-Massive Car Park
-Friendly Staff
-Lovely Room (pictures do not do it justice *superior room)

The food cannot be described, I use about 40-50 Hotels per year for work including restraunts, The food I sampled at the Hare & Hounds was quite possibly the best dinner I have had!!
(I cannot recommend the Lamb Hot pot enough)

I will be back again and again!

Room Tip: Go for a superior room!

This is a lovely country pub. The food was very nice and there was a good selection of local beers. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast in the morning was outstanding. The staff were very friendly and happy to recommend things to do and places to go and see. I would highly recommend this inn.

If you want a true Cumbrian Country Pub experience, then look no further than the Hare & Hounds. Room was very clean, and well furnished to a high standard. The Food is locally sourced where possible and prepared to a standard that leaves you feeling completely satisfied. The staff were very welcoming and professional in their approach. Our very enjoyable stay will certainly lead us to return and maybe this time enjoy more time in the beautiful Cumbrian Country side in which the Pub is situated

The people, room, location are all excellent. Only let down is the food, which is just about passable but sadly a little too reminiscent of the better school dinners....(bit harsh perhaps, subject to where you went to school). As a pub, what you don't want - and what so many do these days - is go all out gastro-pretentious and charge the earth. So on that front, the H&H is to be commended for it's approach.
Just would like to see a little more finesse...e.g. does all the meat (mains and Sunday roast that we ate anyway) really have to be so over cooked?
The friendliness and warmth of the landlady and her staff are what really makes this such a lovely place to stay. The room was fantastic: beautifully decorated, good size, clean and comfortable.
Location is great for exploring the Lakes too. And the bonus being they're genuinely dog friendly should you have one with you.
All in all, would certainly recommend to others as a great place to stay...but perhaps not to eat.
