Had a great time at the Hare and Hounds! The room was equipped beautifully to a very high standard. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, and Kerry the landlady was a fantastic host. It was great to see the whole family involved; Kerry's Dad was a wealth of local knowledge and a brilliant travel advisor! The food was great but the local beer was amazing!!! We really enjoyed the pub quiz on the Thursday (but it wasn't easy, and I'm not disclosing our score)! The full Lakeland Breakfast was sooooo yummy! The pub is in a stunning location, and so convenient for touring. Really recommend this pub for a get away from it all break. Thanks to Kerry, her family and all the staff! Hopefully we will return soon!

Room Tip: We had the only room available which was really quite small but furnished to a high standard, and wa...

Visiting a very wet Cumbria it was a joy to find this fairly remote country pub offering a warm, courteous welcome for a Family Saturday lunch.

The welcome was kind and sincere witha table set aside for my wife, our daughter, son in law and myself as we had requested. There was a log fire in one room and a gas fire in another. The food we had was of excellent quality with more than ample portions. Service was prompt and the food hot.

The prices were reasonable as was the wine list.

We stayed for a week in the local area. This place was amazing - our life saver. The staff are wonderful and the food is equally wonderful. Thank you very much to everyone who works at this pub. We went here every day. We will definitely be coming back again and again. The best pub in the area by a long long way - no competition. Go here and give these great people your business. Thank you thank you.

Last night was our 4th visit to the Hare and Hounds pub. Another superb meal, so tasty, beautifully cooked and served. A good choice of starters, all 4 of us had different ones, all very satisfied. The mains the same. Too full for pud, wanted to savour the taste of the lamb - scrummy. Lovely atmosphere, genuinely good service, nothing too much for Kerry.
This has to be my very favourite place to eat, hurrah, we are only 30 minutes away.

Rooms are furnished to very high standard and tasteful, but the room we were allocated was I believe a single with a Doublle bed. It was difficult to open wardrobe doors as they hit foot of bed. On checking in the radiator was not on and we had to call reception. It was resolved. The remote control only worked standing in doorway and did not work properly. This room was called a Standard. Our fellow guests paid £25 more and their room was enormous with free standing bath.

Room Tip: Do not take Standard room. Too small.

The hare and hounds rescued us on a late December afternoon! We'd originally booked another hotel near by but cancelled our stay as it was not as described. The late booking at the h&h meant we received a free upgrade as an 'early Christmas present' but all of the rooms were lush (we got to peek in three). Cosy log fires, fabulous food and real ales.

Went here tonight for a meal with my mum. We didn't book and happened to pass by so popped in - they found us a table no problem by the lovely wood burning stove! Had a gorgeous meal with superb mulled wine and cider. The staff were fantastic and Kerry is a credit to the pub - never met such a friendly manageress! Definitely would go back again and recommend to any - just a shame we live so far away in Derby!
