This little park is a great place for serious biking and hiking because of the terrain. Hills and gullies! In Florida! Who knew!? The overlook in the campground is beautiful. We stayed in the winter with a small group of die-hard campers and a wonderful and helpful ranger. It was like being with easy-going, helpful family. There's not a lot for a family with small children to do, but it's great for adults and older kids interested in hiking and biking. For those not up to an RV or tent, there is a small cabin and a yurt (which has its own private deck on the overlook.) If you think of Florida as flat, sandy and full of palm trees, come to Torreya for an amazing change of pace.

Stopped here on a whim, as we were passing by on I-10 and saw it on the map. It turned out to be a very interesting park. The terrain in this area is pretty hilly for Florida. You actually have a bit of elevation gain on the hiking trails, which are beautiful. There is an interesting mixture of natural scenery and history here (civil war era.) The park is named after the Torreya Tree, which is an interesting, exotic looking evergreen tree that is in danger of extinction. You can see a couple of small ones near the entrance of the park. Right below the old plantation house is the Appalachicola River, the largest river in Florida. I would love to return here and hike some of the trails... It seems like there is a rather extensive network here.

We stopped here to hike a little, on our way from the panhandle back to south Florida. There are hills! Or at least one nice, big hill we were able to walk down and then up. Being mountain people we miss such elevation changes here in Florida, and it is nice to find that! There are some interpretive markers pertaining to Civil War history. The park is on the Apalachicola River, which looked quite swift the day we were there. I am sure it is a nice place to camp, and also it was great for taking a break to stretch our legs during a long drive, and get one last blast of elevation before returning to a very flat place.

Beautiful state park! We stayed a couple nights in the yurt and had a wonderful time! This is truly the only way to camp in Florida during the summer. We plan on going back more often even though it's a drive for us. All of the rangers were friendly and informative. If you are camping, make sure you stock up on supplies before getting there...nothing around which we liked, but if we hadn't known that, it would have been an extra trip to get supplies. Bristol is probably your best bet to get gas and supplies.

My husbands family had reunions here and it's been too long since we've been back.its just has beautiful as we remember.the day was perfect for it.got there late in the day so it was not to hot.we missed the last tour of the house but hiked the trails and views from the house landings are wonderful looking over the river. They have camping sites and a playground with restrooms.one day we are going to stay at the yurt.
