“Very good trails at Torreya”
Reviewed March 31, 2012

The staff is very friendly and helpful, and restrooms/showers are very clean at Torreya. There was firewood for purchase there. We stayed at site #17, and though a nice large site, it does not offer any shade at all.
I had wanted a good place to hike and Torreya was great. The trails are often a bit rugged, with changes in elevation, with a few small wooden bridges, so be sure to wear good comfortable shoes, or better yet, hiking boots. We saw a small pig, a deer, a snake, several lizards, and lots of birds. (Beware of ticks, and be sure to check your dog and yourself, especially well, after hiking.)
Gregory House is beautiful and worth the long hike to get there, (if you don't take the paved road.) It was pleasant to sit and rest on the lawn after our hike and the view
of the Apalachicola river is very good there. I would recommend Torreya.

“A great campground”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

We visited Torreya last weekend, Thursday to Sunday, stayed in a 5th wheel. The sites were large, well shaded and very clean. The bathhouse was next door to our site, but that wasn't a problem at all, there were trees and shrubs to divide us. A beautiful trail down to a very small "waterfall"...about 1/2 hour walk, a little steep, but very easy. A few bugs, not too bad (this is Florda). A historical house tour on the property was the best tour of its kind I've ever taken, but the park ranger was the best.....VERY nice and SO funny! $3 for the tour and the story, dating back to the Civil War. Great place to just relax, other than the trails and tour, no big attractions. About 20 minutes from Tallahassee

“Lovely place to camp & great for day hike”
Reviewed March 25, 2012

For campers, the most important amenity is a clean bathroom. Torreya has them! The facilities were never dirty or out of order. The campground is nice and open, though a few sites would be difficult for an RV to back into. The area is beautiful, with some nice leisurely paths and some more strenuous ones. Great foliage too, & beautiful view from the bluffs.

“A hidden gem!”
Reviewed March 14, 2012

We just made a quick stop to see the endangered Torreya tree. I was disappointed that a fungus has devastated most of the wild trees. There are a handfull of you ones planted near the home overlooking the the river. Park staff was helpful. Did not have much time to look around but it was a nice setting.

“Feel like your not in Florida in Florida.”
Reviewed March 8, 2012

Torreya is one of my favorite parks to camp and hike. You will not feel like you are in Florida. Awesome views from some very beautiful bluffs overlooking the Apalachicola River. Great camp sites and friendly staff.
