The staff is very friendly and helpful, and restrooms/showers are very clean at Torreya. There was firewood for purchase there. We stayed at site #17, and though a nice large site, it does not offer any shade at all.
I had wanted a good place to hike and Torreya was great. The trails are often a bit rugged, with changes in elevation, with a few small wooden bridges, so be sure to wear good comfortable shoes, or better yet, hiking boots. We saw a small pig, a deer, a snake, several lizards, and lots of birds. (Beware of ticks, and be sure to check your dog and yourself, especially well, after hiking.)
Gregory House is beautiful and worth the long hike to get there, (if you don't take the paved road.) It was pleasant to sit and rest on the lawn after our hike and the view
of the Apalachicola river is very good there. I would recommend Torreya.
