My husband and I stayed for three nights the first weekend in Oct. What we liked about our stay: the great access to a beautiful beach (it's across the street), the excellent and friendly customer service (Danny), the lovely landscaping, and the easy access by trolley up and down the island. This is not a big fancy resort hotel but a modest and well-situated motel with clean accommodations, kitchenettes and kitchens, and a modest size, but refreshing pool. We stayed in an upstairs unit because it seemed brighter and we liked our upstairs deck. Many of the guests were from England and Scotland and most were repeat visitors. We give the Tropic Isle Inn an excellent rating because it was just what we were looking for -- a cozy getaway and alternative to another big resort.

We stayed here for three days in May of 2004, and I have never had a better experience with a vacation, either in a hotel or a cruise ship. The hotel is located right across the street from a very wide, soft sand beach (be careful crossing the street) with plenty of chaise lounge chairs provided. The beach is very quiet, with parasailing and jet-skiing available a few minutes away; activities in which we did not partake. We had a one-bedroom unit on the ground floor, fifteen feet away from a good size, heated pool with enough tropical foliage that you did not notice the street on the other side. The room as extremely clean, and had all kitchen items furnished - except a blender. The a/c window unit was in the bedroom and was pretty loud, but with windows in the front and back of the unit, we got a good breeze. Bathroom seemed newly renovated and was very clean and fresh. The local taverns were VERY local, with a clientele that supplied us with lots of stories. Local dining was iffy - don't expect too much. Duffy's was horrible, Sandbar nice but touristy and Banana Cabana was small but had great lunch food. The hotel staff was very friendly and laid back. We were very pleasantly surprised at the overall quality and attention to detail at this property. We would do it again.

Last November we stayed at the much overrated Bungalow Beach Resort for three nights. Our unit was small and cramped. The sitting area was plastic wicker which was most uncomfortable. When they took the photos of the unit, they must have been standing on a table in the corner of the room. If you were sitting at the bar in the kitchen area and someone wanted to get in or out of the unit you had to get up and move. The pool was very small and there was never an empty chair to be found. I was lucky enough to get a chair at the beach front a time or two. I would not stay there again. We moved from the Bungalow Beach Resort to A Tropic Isle Inn for another three nights. We were so happy. It is across the street from the beach but only a 1 minute walk to the beach. For the same money we had a spacious, clean, beautiful 2 bedroom unit. We always found an available chair at the pool. It was quiet and relaxing and after 1/2 day at this Inn, (day 4 of our vacation) I finally relaxed for the first time. We would definitely go back there again. In fact, we would have booked a week there this year but they are all booked up for a wedding the week we will be there. There were many good restaurants with varying prices and atmospheres. Same with the shopping. We went to the outlet mall on the mainland several times. We leave in about a month for 6 nights at Villa Provence. I will let you know how that works out.We have been going to Florida for vacations for years and cannot believe we haven't heard more about Anna Maria Island. We would never have gone to this area but on vacation a few years ago we were delayed getting into the Keys by a hurricane - a blessing in disguise!
