Tortuga Inn is a great place no matter how many you have with you. The beautiful beach is just across the street, and the Inn provides plenty of chairs, umbrellas and towels. It is also walking distance to the downtown area of Bradenton Beach - full of great shops and restaurants. When my spouse and I expand our family, we look forward to renting out a larger suite for the week or so! Those accomodations looked great as well.

The wife & I needed a quick get away to recharge, so we called Tortuga Inn. We drove over on friday afternoon. Got checked in, easy as always. Tim at the front desk told us about 2 big festivals going on that weekend, one was the art festival in downtown Sarasota & the other was the Cortez seafood festival. We went to the art festival on saturday & the seafood festival on sunday. We had another great weekend thanks to the staff of Tortuga Inn.
see you in May.

We booked an 8 day stay through expedia. Our accomodations had no windows and no door--only a slider from the bedroom to the interior passway. Blinds and curtains had to be kept closed for privacy. Room was dark and lacked any comfortable place to sit and read. Layout was not good. We tried to upgrade but couldn't.
I am sure other accomodations at this resort are much better than we were given, but pool is very small for number of rooms; not enough chairs on beach; "DVD Library" is a joke.
MOST IMPORTANT - DO NOT BOOK THROUGH EXPEDIA. Management told us that better accomodations were not available through expedia and we paid 1/3 MORE to expedia than we would have paid had we called the resort directly.

We choose this hotel partly because of all the great reviews from Trip Advisor, and I'm so glad we did. Although I haven't stayed in many places on this island (2 others, beside this one), this place may be the best choice for cleanliness, spaciousness, amenities and charm on the island. We chose the 2-bedroom Bay view room and we so pleased; we only stayed for 3 nights and wish we could have been here a week, in spite of the nordic weather this March break!! There was only one room we would have wanted more than ours - the one with the fireplace! Kidding aside, we felt like we were staying in someone's condo. A large kitchen, spacious principal rooms, lanai, and bedrooms; in fact the 2nd bedroom and ensuite had its own microwave and fridge, and could be locked to be totally independent. We are a family of 4 - one teenager and one 7-year-old - and their bedroom had 2 twin beds. Ours had a large king size bed (mattress may need to be replaced soon in this room), a large walk-in closet and huge ensuite. Our friends happened to stay in a hotel right next door, and even acknowledged that we'd lucked out with our place. Not a 'cheap' stay, but great value, with the biggest bang for the buck for sure. And it was VERY clean. Even the elevators were cleaned regularly (we notice these things); the parking garage was safe and clean, and the main pool was really warm! We really loved it and would only stay there when we go back to this part of Florida. Oh, and the housekeeping staff: so lovely, very honest. My husband forgot a pair of shoes (!) in the room and the hotel is going to mail them back to us! How's that for honesty and service? Stay here, you won't be disappointed.

This was the first time we stayed at tortuga, the room was smaller than we expected, room 155, the pictures made it look larger, but it was very clean, had a large walk in closet with only 5 hangers, needed more hangers. Had no bath tub, large shower for two, no washer or dryer, only washer and driers they had was in a room behind the office, 4 washers and driers where you had to pay, one was out of order, you had to wait until the maid got done with all her loads first and any body else, we were there 2 hours to wash and dry 3 loads of cloths. We brought our small little dog which on there paper said that they prefer us to take him somewhere other than there property, which there is no grassy areas for pets. They had a jacuzzi just behind our patio which you had to share with 4 other units, which most of the time they were always someone in the jacuzzi. The first couple nights the heat didn't work, we got really cold, until we complained, and they had to replace the switch. I believe the price we paid a night there was overpriced which we stayed a week there for 2 thousand dollars, we should have had our own washer and dryer, our own hot tub, also there should be smoking rooms, and even serve breakfast, we will not be back there again, we will go to somewhere like days inn where they are cheaper and for 60 dollars a night they even serve breakfast. Other than that they did have free long distant calling.

I read your comments about your recent visit to our resort; and, I must say, I had to check to make sure you were talking about our resort. Never have we had such a total negative review. Occasionally we'll have a guest give a negative comment but along with that they will give us a number of positive comments also. Our only reply to this is we just wish you would have come to the office and expressed your dislikes and we would have done everything we could to remedy your problem. We have a number of different types of accommodations and I'm sure we could have found something that would suit your expectations. I could address each of your issues; however, I don't think that will change how you came away feeling about our resort; and, we are truly sorry for that. We hope your overall experience was good and that you will choose to return to Anna Maria Island again.

My fiancé and I stayed in one of the Palm Court South hotel rooms for three nights last month. Overall, it was a good experience—the hotel is attractively laid out and clean, the furniture and overall design of the rooms is nice, the pool is small but pleasant (it was too cold to swim), and for a room without a kitchen they provided a good set-up with a coffee maker, microwave, mini-fridge, and all the plates/cups/silverware/utensils you need for a quick breakfast or snack.

For the most part, what you get aligns with the information on their incredibly detailed Web site. There were a few drawbacks, though. First, be warned that each “hotel room” in the Palm Court South is actually just an additional bedroom that is attached to a larger unit next door. There’s nothing but a locked interior door separating your room from the kitchen/living area of the adjacent suite, and you could hear EVERYTHING. It felt very un-private and cut down on the romantic aspect of our weekend. For a place that has clearly spent time making their property nice, this was sort of surprising. Why wouldn’t you plaster over these doors, or at least insulate them in some way to cut down on the noise?

The other problem we ran into was that the wireless broadband that was advertised did not actually work. You couldn’t get on the network at all unless you were outside, and even then it was incredibly slow to the point of being unusable. Probably not a big deal for people who are there for a beach vacation, but we were there to do research for our wedding, so this was pretty frustrating (especially since there’s no cell phone service either). When we politely mentioned that we were having trouble with the Internet, the man at the front desk was pretty blasé and un-apologetic. He basically said they were having problems with the network and they were aware of the issue, but this is Anna Maria Island and it’s laid back here.

One additional thing: I was under the impression that Tortuga provided daily maid service unless you got the cheaper weekly rate, but what the maids actually do is called a “touch up” and essentially consists of making the bed and replacing the towels. No sweeping out of the room, and we had to wash our own plates, glasses, and coffee mugs (these were left dirty by the maid). Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. I get the impression that almost none of the accommodations on the island provide full daily maid service.

So, in short, it was pleasant, but given the less-than-stellar service and the noise issues, I'm not sure it was worth the $200 per night that we paid. If I had it to do again, I think I would select something more economical, since this wasn't really the "luxury" experience I was expecting.
