I have always considered followers of Tripadvisor to be a bit on the edge, willing to venture to different places and try different foods and experiences. This restaurant is made for you. It is a small place, 1/3 grocery store and 2/3 sit down restaurant with a flat screen TV that is always on a Hispanic station It is AUTHENTIC Mexican food and once inside, you could be anywhere in Mexico, eating good food, but in a safe environment. The prices are reasonable, the food is great, and the service is friendly and efficient. But most of all, it is an eating experience. Try it, you will like it if you have any adventure in your soul.

If plastic cutlery and less than perfect English bother you, you don't belong here. Otherwise you'll have a great inexpensive meal by friendly accommodating staff. A nice selection of Mexican beer.

Really good flour tortillas here...Carne asada was good as well as the 'staple' bean and cheese tacos. (a staple in Texas anyways) We were relieved to find this place and will be back to try the bistec a la mexicana and the chilaquiles ...prices are reasonable too...seating is limited and its very busy but worth it.

We visited La Rancherita with our adult daughter during spring break. She is an aficionado of mexican food, so we thought we'd give this place a try. The restaurant is a little hole-in-the-wall place attached to a convenience store. Just the kind of place where you might find authentic mexican fare. As soon as we sat down, the waitress brought us home-made chips and salsa. The red salsa was quite spicy and the green rather mild. They have a few beer and wine choices as well as the usual sodas and jarritos. A la carte items include tacos, burritos, tamales, gorditas, tostadas and tortas. The tacos and burritos can be made with your choice of meat (about 16 different types of fillings such as carnitas, barbacoa, shrimp, al pastor, etc.) We tried a combination of tacos and burritos--$2 to $2.50 a piece with fillings I listed above. Tacos were served with cilantro, onion and wedges of lime. Delicious! The burritos were filled with our meat choice and then lightly pan-fried. Again, just delicious. We also had chicken tamales which were good if a little bland. For heartier appetites there are also enchiladas ($8.99), fish ($9.99), steak ($8) and flautus platters ($8.99) that come with rice and beans. The family next to us had tortas (mexican sandwiches) that looked huge and delicious. Go for the food and not the atmosphere if you want to try great mexican food for dirt cheap prices.
