The once-popular restaurant Caruso fell on hard times when its owner-chef decamped for Europe two years ago and the eatery ultimately closed. Now it is reborn with the original chef at the helm and the food is wonderful once again. The new restaurant, Piatinni, occupies a slightly larger space in the Royal Palm Plaza. The dishes are rooted in Italy, but they are of human-sized proportions-- not "family style." Everything we have tried has been delicious: sautéed eggplant, mussels, steamed clams, red snapper, veal chops and various pasta dishes. Prices are extremely reasonable for this quality of food. Piatinni has a very nice bar area and the ambience and service are first class.
