“GREAT FOOD Great service”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

We Love this place as much as Houston's which is only a few blocks down. Here it's actually easier to find a table and the food is great

“Bright Star”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

This is the place we always come back to. Constant consistency is so rare these days, and they do it - in everything. All the food is cooked to order, and all of it from scratch. Their chicken pasta soup is my favorite soup period. And it's common knowledge among many veteran foodies, that their mac and cheese is the best around. We've tried a lot of different versions in high end eateries and multiple states, including a few lobster mac's - the others don't compare. I think it's the gruyere.

Some say that J Alexander's is a knock off of Houston's, but they started before Houston's did. Though there are some similarities. We've never had a bad meal here, or even bad food - and I've been eating here for the better part of a decade. Carl has been the GM for most of those years, and he is a consummate professional. He works as hard as any of his staff, and regularly walks around greeting guests with a handshake and a smile seeking to help any way he can.

One of the original CEO's had previously been one for KFC, and they actually bought the recipe. The only ones to ever do so. They're not on the level of any of the Prime steakhouses which charge accordingly, but on the level right below that. Which is still a cut above the rest. This would definitely be considered fine dining for the majority of Americans who never make it to the level of dining as status. Which is all the most expensive places really are. What they give you here is gourmet food at reasonable prices.

Their steaks and prime rib are very good, and mostly what I ate for years, until I discovered the fried chicken. Now if you don't like fried chicken, then this may not be a big deal to you. But I have never found a high end restaurant, generally speaking, that has it on the menu. This place not only makes it fresh per order, but they use the colonel's recipe. How can you beat that.

They even make their own lemonade. Their Cypress Salad has the fried chicken in it, along with hot cornbread croutons, avocado and cherry tomatoes - so good. We have the unique advantage of typically eating lunch a little later in the afternoon, so I can't speak to dinner and the crowds. Obviously I'm a great fan of what they do here, and how well they do it. Even when we cut back on going out to a nice place to just a couple of times a week, this is always one of them.

“Always reliable”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Great as usual, nice atmosphere and interesting menu. We chose to eat in the main Restaurant area, and we had to wait about 15mins. We could have eaten at the bar straight away ( which is actually good fun and very lively) if we were in a hurry but we wanted a booth. Wine by the glass was excellent and the food was as usual very tasty.

“Not what it used to be and much worse value for the money”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

This used to be one of our go to restaurants but no more. The prices are higher, the food is not as good and even the wait staff agree that the value is not what it used to be. One of our group wanted to order a Caesar salad with one crab cake and they said that they would charge the full crab cake meal less $3 for just one crab cake on a very small caesar salad. There are much better restaurants now in the area for very significantly better value. Do not recommend any longer.

“Pretty reliably good, but no reservations”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

We wanted to make reservations for our party of 7 when we were visiting Boca, but they were the only restaurant for our visit that would not take reservations for that sized party. They told us to call about an hour ahead, which was very inconvenient. When we were seated, the table was rather small, considering the size of the party; but the food was good, as usual. They do have reliably very good veggie burgers. Their restaurants seem to be consistently good with good atmosphere. It is a reliable place to take people, but they really should take advance reservations for large parties.
