“Great beach snorkelling experience”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

I discovered this park on the internet while looking for a place to go snorkeling near Boca Raton. What a find. This park was close to my hotel, so I rode my bike over and spent the afternoon on the beach. The real treat is the snorkelling. There are great reefs for snorkelling just off the beach in relatively shallow water, depending on the tide. Best to go at high tide. Perfect for beginner snorkelers and children. Nice collection of fish, including an occasional barracuda. Parking is very expensive at the park; $18.00 per day. I noticed that the locals try to find off street parking nearby and walk instead of paying the on-site parking fee. Or bring your bycicle like I did. Park admission is free. Full restroom and cookout facilities. Lifeguard on duty in the Summer. Warm, clear water. Nice boardwalk accross the dunes. Several good restaurants nearby. Well worth a consideration for a day at the baech in southern Palm Beach County.

“No reef snorkeling at Red reef Park!”
Reviewed July 22, 2011

We went to Red Reef Park, all excited about what we had read on official and non official online literature about snorkeling in this park. Much to our surprise, as we were swimming out to the reef that we thought was still existent, with our equipement, we were summoned by one of the lifeguards that we had been too far already. We were just 150 feet away from the shore! She told us that the ledge had actually been covered in sand because "they" had dredged the area. What was left to see was some rocks by the shore for some baby snorkeling. So much for our snorkeling experience at red Reef Park! I think the park should correct the information for snorkelers.

“Nice beach, and nice, easy snorkeling experience”
Reviewed April 20, 2011

This was my first visit to Red Reef Park, and I found it to be a nice clean park with nice amenities. The reef was filled with various fish to see, parrot fish, palmetto, snook, even barracudas just to name a few. The reef is very close to the shoreline, near the pile of rocks, and easy to snorkel if the conditions are right. Yes the $16/$18 entrance fee is a little ridiculous but for a nice day all things considered, I would recommend this park to any who enjoy snorkeling and ocean activities.

“Great Fun, Easy Snorkel, Beautiful Beach!”
Reviewed February 7, 2011

There are a lot of reviewers complaining about the price of entry, I don't understand the relation but be prepared to pay $16 on the weekdays, and $18 for weekends/holidays. This is a city park, not a public beach. You are paying for convenience of parking close and the facilities that the park offers. If you are on a budget then consider your options. You can easily pay $40 PER PERSON to go snorkeling on a charter boat for just a few hours, rather than $16 for the entire family, ALL DAY. Yes, you will see a lot of fish as well as a lot of other people, and boats that destroy the same reef you are trying to enjoy.

One must also understand the conditions of the ocean.. there are no guarantees. The conditions are posted before entry or you can simply as the person at the booth, if the conditions are less than good then you should turn around or make due with what you have. We cannot control mother nature and neither can the lifeguards or the city of Boca Raton.

The park is home to a pristine strip of beach with less crowds than the "free" beaches in Fort Lauderdale, but what you don't get at those beaches is the very close Red Reef, easy snorkeling for smaller children, and older family members, beginners, great photographic opportunities and "from the sand" fishing restrictions. There is also a lot of very shallow and very clear water that reaches far out enough for everyone to play comfortably without having to worry about rip currents or dangerous sea life sneaking up on you, but always keep a watchful eye! The fish even come up off of the reef rocks and into the white sands.

The best time to go snorkeling is MARCH thru JUNE and late SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER when the ocean is calmer.
