Owner description: This 20 acre coastal preserve is a destination you don’t want to miss! Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is surrounded by a rare remnant of tropical hardwood hammock, located on a barrier island in Boca Raton. Take a stroll through the butterfly garden, where many species of wild butterflies can be seen year-round. Walk the Ashley Trail and relax in the authentic Chiki overlooking the Intracoastal. A variety of native fish, sharks, and other marine animals reside in marine aquariums. Visit the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility to learn about our sea turtle patients. Indoor displays feature wildlife indigenous to South Florida and a series of stained glass windows depicting the coastal island as it may have appeared in the 1500s. Florida Atlantic University has an onsite marine biology laboratory with a gallery for viewing research projects conducted by university scientists. Purchase imaginative and environmentally friendly gifts from our nature-themed gift shop. Please note picnicking is not permitted.

If you like turtles, this is the place to go. They have a tower to overlook the area - very nice., nature trail, and lots of turtles in their center to be released. The new holding tanks will soon be done and you'll be able to view lots of critters. can't wait to go back and see the changes.

It is free to get in but there is also a donation box. There are areas under construction now but there is still a lot to see. It is worth a visit!

they are doing some updating at this Nature Center. the pools with the turtles and sharks were closed but the visitor's center was open and the walkway around the center between the intercoastal and the ocean was still enjoyable.

My two grandchilden are nature lovers. Gumbo LImbo is staffed with many cheerful and involved volunteers. You can see all sorts of rescued turtles that have been found injured or otherwise stressed in the wild and are being nursed back to health. The setting is kind of plain but these people are doing wonderful and important work and we enjoyed our time there.
