“Nice Choice for BBQ and Pickles”

We wandered into PA BBQ Grill on July 4 instead of going home and making dinner. Good move, since they had such good picnic food already made. Service was very friendly. Oh, and the pickles. When you sit at your table they bring you a little dish of sweet and hot pickles. Never tasted anything like them. Fantastic. And an order of fried pickles did not disappoint.

So, Pulled Pork, Brunswick Stew, Chopped Cole Slaw, Fries were all delicious. Cornbread was delightful. Again, the service was very good. When we asked about the Cole Slaw, the server even asked the kitchen how exactly it was made and reported back to us. Cannot wait to go back and try ribs and brisket and other sides like Collard Greens and Baked Beans.

Boca Raton is not a place one normally associates with African-American soul food. But PA, short for Park Avenue BBQ Grille, is located adjacent to Pearl City, an historic African-American enclave that goes back almost 100 years in Boca. One might quibble with the authenticity of the dishes served at PA, but overall it is very good, certainly the best in Boca for this kind of cuisine. On a recent visit, I enjoyed the collard greens, potato salad, and fried chicken lunch, which was reasonably priced. In previous visits, I have sampled other soul food staples, all of them well prepared, individually cooked, and at least close to the real thing. PA is close to Central East Boca in Mizner on Dixie Highway. For a taste of soul, this is it.

I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and the service.

Everything was served fresh and hot (or cold - like slaw). Portion sizes were very good. Had half rack of baby back ribs with slaw and mac&cheese. Liked everything.

Try their sweet and hot pickles (free) - quite tasty.

Both the wait staff and manager were friendly and timely.

I will be going again.
