“Old World Charm Meets the Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2011

We're locals and were in fact married at the resort 20 years ago. We came for a brief weekend and were so pleased that the resort is just as elegant, charming and romantic as it was when we were married; of course, this time we had two teens in tow so definitely different this time! They loved the facilities and it was so nice that they could enjoy themselves! The grounds and hotel are gorgeous and the spa can't be missed! The ritual bath is exceptional. The staff were exceptionally accomodating and friendly. Yes, almost everything can seem "ala carte" but there are great specials including the "Uniquely Boca" package which addresses any fear of "hidden fees" such as parking, resort fee, etc.. If you want "Old World" charm stay at the Cloisters; if you want contemporary, stay at the Beach Club. The teens loved taking the little boat back and forth from the beach to the main facility. Walking the grounds of the resort is an absolute pleasure itself. The restaurants are fabulous and the prices range from moderate to expensive. Be careful; the breakfast brunch and some of the restaurants get packed so show early or make reservations. If you have friends visit, you must inform the front desk; there is a charge for parking which will appear on your bill. The online booking can be a pain, confusing because of so many different choices of rooms, rates and locations if you aren't familiar with the resort. Call the resort yourself and talk with staff who work there to determine the right room and package; they're kind and patient. I plan to come back for a "girls spa day/overnight" soon so hopefully it will be just as wonderful.

Visited this resort for a business conference. Very impressive grounds, has every amenity you would every need and has a great location, close to the beach.

My wife and I attended a conference at this location in April, 2010.
For the first time, we took our 2 daughters on the trip with us. I had checked the hotel out online and found they had a "Beach Club for Kids" we could enroll the girls in. Booking the beach club was rather more difficult, but after several phone calls it was all booked.
The beach club was absolutely wonderful and the girls had an absolute blast everyday with all the different activities. We were staying in the main hotel so we had to take them by either water taxi or the regular resort buses over to the beach club.
The staff at the beach club were great and treated the girls like family. I would not hesitate booking them into the club again 10 out of 10!
The room we had was a family room that was quite large with a seperate area from the bathroom for make up application, that was a god send.
The room was a very long way from the swimming pool. It was a good 5+ minute walk through the main lobby, which was not so good on the way back dripping water.
The hotel was built in the 1920's, which gives it great ambience, but the room decor is slightly lacking, especially as it has been painted over who knows how many times. For the price we were paying, we had expected more. I woke up one night to a dripping sound. Upon exploration I found the bathroom ceiling dripping quite profusely. This had obviously happened before judging by the mould along the wall/ceiling line.
I did not call the front desk until the morning, and by the time we came back to our room the problem had been fixed and yet again, painted over.
The "Tower" and "Beach Club" are much newer additions to the hotel.
The hotel is in a great location. The main hotel is situated on the Inter Coastal and always has some beautiful yachts and cruisers moored up.
The Beach Club is just across the Inter Coastal on the ocean. This is a very modern building with great beach front and several great pools.
The conference we were attending was in the main building, and these facilities were very nice, large and clean.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for families and conferences, and I am looking forward to my next stay. I think the beach club will be our first choice next time.

The resort has been improved from my last stay in 2009. The only problem was the meeting rooms were freezing.

This hotel has more potential than any hotel in Southern Florida. However its list of rules is greater than any investment bank or government institution, and the lack of empowerment of willing and able staff destroys what they seek to achieve.

My wife and I arrived at the hotel at 9.30 one evening. We have Diamond Hilton status and booked through American Express Centurion - and on check in, were told that no upgrade was available and that the rules did not allow upgrades to the Club level. In addition, we were handed 6 vouchers for water in our room, 2 vouchers for house wine or beer, a charging card for the hotel, a parking card to retrieve our car from valet, keys that had to be put into a reader in the elevator, and a list of our American Express benefits. Luckily, I dont get charged for excess baggage when I fly.

We came downstairs from our room at 10.03pm looking for a meal after several hours travel and a delayed flight. We went to the restaurants, and were declined service saying that they closed at 10pm. We were told that the only option was bar food - pizza or hamburger, which we did not want, and asked about ordering from the room service menu in the foyer. We were told that the rules did not permit this, as the ownership of the space was different, but that we coudl order in our room and carry the food ourselves downstairs. We ended up eating pizza in the bar.

The next day, after enquiring about our stay, the hotel offered to take care of our dinner in the bar - which we said was kind of them, but wouldnt change our view at all. The lady asked what she could do to help, and we said that the only thing would be to allow us access to the club level - to which the front office manager replied that she did not have the authority. This was later authorized by the General Manager, who, somewhat surprisingly, did not call us himself, especially given that she said that we were her 'most VIP guests.'

Breakfast at the Beach Club was excellent. The service was terrific and helpful, the food was good - exactly what we would expect from a 5 star hotel.

Dinner at Cielo was interesting. The food and service was great. The pity was that on a Saturday night, it was largely empty. Why ? Outside guest are only allowed at 24 hours notice, if they fill in a form and send it over to the hotel. We were told that the restaurant is an outside facility - but has to comply with the hotel rules,

Our guest at dinner valet parked their car, which we wanted to add to our room. We had to go to the valet desk, produce our hotel charge authority card, and sign a voucher to enable this to happen. We did ask the helpful staff member which rule of the hotel book this followed - and we had a good laugh......

This hotel should be the best in South Florida. The grounds are beautiful, the restaurant choice is amazing, the pools are terrific, the rooms are for the most part fine - but why does the hotel management insist on parading its extensive rule book to the clientele, and quash the best intentions of its staff..... A small tweak could turn the sour lemons back to sweet lemonade.

This is my second stay at this fabulous resort. The facility is fabulous with a wide choice of room styles to fit all tastes. The grounds are beautiful and expansive. The staff was attentive and friendly. They resolved my only complaint from my visit two years ago which was a long wait for cars from the valet. Now cars are available within 5 minutes. The tennis facility is world famous and the instruction was world class and they went out of their way to find me matches. Their tennis package was great for me. Restaurant selection was good and their beach was beautiful. Price range was variable depending on accomodation but there were good packages available and it is a luxury facility. Boca cost of living is higher than other areas but value was excellant. I plan on going back this spring to the area and staying there again while visiting friends. Never understood the negative reviews, certainly I did not experience those type of problems on either visit. Some people wanted a bargain at a top notch facility, I do not think you find that in Boca or other high end locations but the value was certainly there compared to other places in the area

We stayed at the Boca Raton Resort for 3 nights - while the common areas have been spruced up (the hotel has old school ambiance), the room we had in the cloister section was small, had a queen size bed that was uncomfortable and seemed quite old - it will make a screeching noise if any of us turned, and look over an internal courtyard - or what would have been a courtyard if it wasn't an industrial looking roof. The shower was old and had average pressure. The resort insist on charging you $20 resort fee per day for things that in every other hotel are part of the actual room rate - like newspaper in the morning, bell service on arrival and departure and the right to print your boarding pass at their airline kiosk. Parking is $26 a day. The pool area is average. You can take the shuttle over to the Ocean club which seems much nicer and recently renovated. Their tennis matching program is rubbish - they could not find me one game despite being told i would play anytime during the 3 days we were there. Pros: everyone working there was very courteous and polite. Location is great. Overall, it is completely overpriced for what it offers. Spend your cash elsewhere and go to the Ocean club for a drink.
