Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The beautiful Port Boca Grande Lighthouse sits at the Southern most tip of Gasparilla Island and is located within Gasparilla Island State Park. The oldest building on the island was built in 1890 and saw five Lighthouse Keepers and their families make this beautiful structure home. The Light marks the entrance to Boca Grande Passe and is still an active aid to navigation today. It currently houses a beautiful history museum and gift shop operated and maintained by Barrier Island Parks Society. Barrier Island Parks Society's mission is: Preservation, Education, Conservation, and History. While there is no admission fee, it is operated on donations. Your donation at the front door and/or your purchases at the unique museum gift shop, keeps the Lighthouse open to the public and provides for many educational programs throughout the four local state parks; Gasparilla Island State Park, Cayo Costa State Park, Don Pedro State Park and Stump Pass Beach State Park.

Loved shelling on this beach and visiting the lighthouse museum. Amazing old artifacts that they display proudly and I only wish I could remember all the details that they covered and told you about the history of the old lighthouse! Neat gift-shop to take home a memory from a really special place!

We enjoy the local history and charm that you get walking through the lighthouse and reading about the area's past.

“Beautiful Setting for a Picturesque Attraction”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

We always go to the Boca Grande Lighthouse when we are in the area to visit family. The exhibit is interesting (lots to read), and the setting is priceless. I've taken countless photographs. The beach wraps around the point, and the shelling is particularly good on the west side of the point, walking north, around the rocks at the north end of the park beach. The Gift Shop is well-stocked, particularly with shell and coral jewelry (I always buy jewelry here because the prices are the lowest in the area ... I've seen the same pieces in stores in town and on the mainland at twice the price). Also, as an added bonus, the South Beach Bar & Grille is around the corner (north of the lighthouse) ... good food right on the beach!

“Shells shells shells”
Reviewed January 20, 2014 via mobile

Count on spending $6 to go across a bridge and $3 (on the honor system) to get in the state park. To get thru the the various small rooms in the light house should take no longer than 20 minutes to read about the history of the island, the lighthouse and nearby area. Plenty of shells on the beach - especially if you head left on beach (when viewing the water). Lighthouse doesn't open until Noon on Sundays.
