We just returned from visiting Bahia Honda state park on Big Pine Key, FL. $9/car to get in - well worth the price! Beautiful white sands beaches, snorkeling trips, kayak and paddle board rentals and many lovely hiking trails. We went on the snorkeling trip to Looes key - a coral reef park 9 miles out. Captain PT and First Mate Jody were funny, informative and very entertaining. Party consisted of all ages, including kids, and all had a great time! But the best part was diving on the coral reef - lots and lots of fish - sharks, barracudas, moray eels and lots of schools of smaller fish. Fish swimming with us all around and under the boat! Looes Key is the best place for snorkeling in the keys! This is a must for Key visitors!

We stopped at Bahia Honda Beach on our way to Key West and we were so glad we did! It is a beautiful beach with white sand and clear water! the second day we went back and went snorkeling and seen stingrays and tons of colorful fish and my husband was swimming with barracudas!! The concession stand was very resonable for a park, with good food and cold drinks!
I wish we had more time to spend there...but you can bet on our next trip to florida keys we will be stopping at Bahia Honda Beach!!!

This park trip was one of our favorite days...in fact we visited in the beginning of the day and again at the end of the same day on our way back form Key West. We strolled, swam, and soaked up the sun enjoying the white sand, the clear green waters. Later in the day we visited the butterfly garden and had fun with the iguanas in the garden. We enjoyed the views of the old bridge and got some great pictures. Highly recommend taking in the beach if you get to the area.

Probably the best beach you can get in the Keys. Plus, the old bridge is great to walk and take some pictures. It's definitely worthwhile to stop there while visiting the Keys.

We drove down from Fort Lauderdale to spend the day - about a 3 hour drive. It was the end of April and the water was warm and excellent. We didn't want to go on a snorkeling tour but were excited to see that you can just rent snorkel equipment for the day as well. You will be purchasing your actual snorkel but you rent the mask and fins. They have wet/semi dry/dry snorkel available for purchase starting around $10. We asked the persons at the rental desk for advice and they were very helpful in giving direction as to where to snorkel. We found fish exactly where they told us to look. The water was fairly cloudy when we went because of the waves and also because it was later in the day but you could still see the fish very well. My recommendation is to go earlier in the day as you have to get the equipment back to the rental building by 4:30 p.m. We also spent time just walking the beach on east side of the island, beautiful and you can walk out a long way into the ocean and only be up to your knees (at least around 5 p.m.).
