Always on our list of places to go when we are in the Keys- love the views from atop the "old Bahia Honda Bridge" and walking on the beaches.

“Nice beach and grounds”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Really enjoyed the park. Snorkeling was fun and the beach was nice. I was surprised to see the natural piles of turtle grass along the shoreline but after reading about the eco system and that the park rangers do not clean the shoreline due to the fact that they want to maintain a natural habitat for the area it made sense. The park is well kept up the rangers quite nice and helpful. Next time we visit the park we will go to the more northern beaches and explore them as well as the bridge. We missed both of those this time.

“A treasure”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Bahia Honda is truly a jewel in the crown of Florida's State Park system. There are things to do and see even if you forget your bathing suit. The trails and the view of and from the old railway bridge are awe inspiring. Think for just one minute about Flagler's magnificent feat in getting the overseas railway built across an OCEAN! That is just one aspect that this park! There is museum on site which runs videos about the railway, the 1935 Hurricane and how it affected the Keys and what happened to the people who were living and working here when it struck. Then there is the beach. It's one of the nicest in the Keys. There are showers, toilets,a concession for food and snorkeling. There is a fee for entrance - it's ubiquitous at most of the State Parks we visited during our trip to the Keys, but it is a small price to pay to be able to experience such beauty.

“Great family day”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

We arrived with cooler, fishing poles, snorkel gear and kayaks prepared to spend the day and we did! It was a flat fee to enter the park. Lots of parking and a perimeter road to tour the island for an overview. We settled in near the boat ramps and visited the store and nature center. We decided to not to take an off shore snorkel adventure but go offshore on our own.
First, we swan the bayside beach and enjoyed the walk out onto the bridge. It was a gorgeous view and wonderful history lesson. After securing a picnic table, we took snorkel gear across to Sandspur Beach where the family enjoyed a clean and nice beach. Kids got to snorkel (float ball/flag required) and see sea stars, tropical fish and lobster in the turtle grass.
The nature center was small but very informative.
The bridge is NOT to be missed. You can walk above and below. Lots of great info with the self guided tour type recorded messages.
We later returned to the bay side beach for more swimming and even had a 3ft ray swim with us. Really beautiful park. We got to fish by the old bridge but never got to kayak. It didn't matter, the day was a total success. It was a Saturday and I was afraid of the beaches getting super crowded, they did not. Don't miss this great park.
