We were just there over columbus day weekend. It would have been nice if the man that we paid to enter the park would have said. "Hey the beach is fully covered with 2 ft of Red sea weed and so is the water" We would have not bothered. I have been there in the past and its gorgeous when not covered in 2-3 ft of red spongy seaweed and a nasty sulfar smell. Call 1st if you are going anytime soon. Or you will end up with a very disappointed family as I did that day. We basically paid to stay for 5 minutes. I just wish the parks attendant could have been upfront about the beach!

Visit the "northern" end for more privacy. Restrooms with changing area, covered picnic pavillion and outdoor rinsing station make this a great day trip.

We enjoyed an afternoon wandering around the park. I had wanted to go on a snorkeling excursion but we opted out at the last minute. However, the man running the info booth for the Snorkeling was very friendly and knowledgable. We followed the trail to the old bridge, and noticed many people enjoying the beaches on both ocean and bay sides. We even stopped in at the Nature Center! We drove through the campground and thought there were a number of good sites for RV's (tent sites were on the north side of the highway with a couple of cabins). All in all, a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

We spent a week in our travel trailer at the Bahia Honda and had a great time. The weather was not perfect but the park was great. We had a large site with plenty of room for our toys. They do not have sewer hook ups so we used the showers to not over whelm our holding tank. We took our boat and used the free campers docks but they are limited to 1st come 1st severed. We had good luck catching lobsters and catching pan fish but the water was too rough to go out to the outside reef but did see a nice Cobia that was caught out there. The staff at the on site snack bar and dive store were very nice and helpful along with the staff at the front entrance. There was a lot of seaweed because of the weather which smells when it rots but where we were the smell did not make it there. Cool places to explore we had a good time. No see ums and mosquitoes were out and you need to bring what ever defense you use or you stay inside after the sun sets. Again had a great time, already made reservations for next year. Oh we also did a Key West day trip because it is so close and went to dinner at the Sunset Grille and Raw Bar on Knights key you have to check out the big screen at the pool.

Having been recommended this beach by both magazine and local diner, we were VERY disappointed by this beach. Lot and lots and lots and lots of seaweed on the beach, that you had to walk through the weed both a metre onto the beach and in some places very deep into the waters edge. The smell was not good. The water looks very inviting but you have to get through the weed, dirty water before you get to anything near clear water. Not worth the money you pay to get in.
