It's an easy place to get to from the main road. There were lots of animals at the watering hole including alligators, iguanas, many different types of birds, lizards, fish and even deer! It's also really quiet.

They were all out when we toured enjoying a beautiful day. The nature trail was a bit burned out but coming back now.

You can take a short hike around the blue hole. To get there just put the name in your gps and head toward the "tree" icon on your map and you will find parking. It is a small area - trails about 1/2 mile long total. We saw at least 2 alligators there - one quite close. Pictures were shot from my phone.

It was a fun place to stop and view nature.

We drove down to the Blue Hole after visiting the Welcome Center. The very friendly volunteer there told us that much of the natural wildlife that usually might be spotted around the pond had been lost in Hurricane Irma. The NWS does not reintroduce animals into the area after such a loss. “We don’t manage the animals,” she said. “We manage the refuge for them.” Worth the short drive from the Welcome Center. Go!

If you're lucky you can spot an alligator or two in that pont. It's also the home of turtles, fish and birds.
